I just bought a used sled that has alot of corrosion, dirt , grease/oil on the engine and aluminum parts in the engine compartment. Is there a good spray on type cleaner out there for this type of thing? Is it even possible to get the aluminum looking newer once it has weathered.

I agree on the zephyr 40 being the best polish, but if the aluminum isnt cleaned first it can require a lot of rubbing or buffing. I use a pre-mixed acid or a heavy duty degreaser on aluminum before polishing. It makes things a lot easier.

I used meguiars mag and aluminum polish on my expansion chamber, the rear bumper and front steering rod with one of those polishing balls, it worked great.

YOU WILL NEED TO CLEAN WITH A ACID CLEANER FIRST , YOU CAN BUY IT FROM MOST AUTO DETAIL SUPPLY STORES, ITS USED ON STEEL WHEELS TO REMOVE RUST, COMES IN GALLEN JUGS, MIXS ABOUT 7-1 WITH WATER. IT WILL TURN ALL THE ALUM. WHITE THEN YOU CAN POLISH WITH A LOT LESS WORK. I USE IT ON OLD HARLEY PARTS BEFORE POLISHING, CLEANS ENG. UP LIKE NEW, SPRAY IT ON ,RINCE OFF VERY WELL WITH WATER. THIS WILL SAVE HOURS OF RUBBING AND POLISHING, ITS ALSO USED AT ALL COMM. TRUCK WASHES, THEY CALL IT BRIGHTENER , MERATIC ACID, IS WHAT IT IS MADE FROM.

Thanks for all the tips. The acid one sounds like what I need for the amount of corrosion on some parts. What about everything else like the rubber and plastic pieces wont they get damaged. What about the belly pan plastic after I rinse it down. Thanks.

This stuff is supposed to work pretty good. Sounds like you need the heavy duty stuff though.

Dont use acid. It will go after all the zinc plateing on the steel parts and rivets, they will then streak the aluminum and rust. Get Mag wheel cleaner, the kind that is sutible for BARE or POLISHED aluminum. It will say this on the bottle. This will still affect your plateing, but it wont destroy it like the brightening acids.I use it on my tunnel, and my billet m-10w.It remo0ves dirt and light grease as well and wont harm paint or decals.
Use a good water soluble degreaser first such as Gunk. You will need a stiff bristle brush for both the degreaser and the mag cleaner,do not use the brush on anything but the cast parts,it will scratch the tunnel and other smooth parts. I use a soft bushy 4" paint brush on them, but use care, you can scratch them even with this. Then you can polish away.

Thanks for all the tips. I am not too worried about the tunnel it is not bad. It is the clutch cover, brake and chaincase, recoil ect. Basically everything aluminum under the hood has alot of what looks like salt damage/ white corrosion.... from trailering I assume.
