Today my sled had a weird bog when I got on it from a dead stop. It would only pull 7000rpm wide open. If I backed off and got on it again then it would pull 8500rpm. I noticed there is some black stuff coming out of the VES valve on the pto sid eof the motor. Its coming out of the tip of the black cover, any clue on what is causing it? I'm going to take the valves out tomorrow and make sure they don't need to be cleaned and aren't stuck. I'm thinking if it is sticking then thats what was causing the bog.

How many miles since the last time you cleaned them? We do ours every 1000 miles, we are using shell advance, snow ultra oil...seem to be clean @ 1000 also..

Well since I don't have a speedo to keep track of miles I usually check them once a month when we have snow and I am riding regularly. We've only had snow for a couple weeks now where I been riding a lot. But I still don't know why this stuff would be coming out of the tip of the black cover.

If you have anything coming out of the vent hole in the center of your valve cover you probably have a torn diaphram. Just cleaned my valves today at 1,350 miles, they looked pretty good.
When you have the valves out compress the valve and hold your finger over the hole in the cover, if the vaccum holds the valve open then the diaphram is good. If the valve just springs back or returns slowly to the closed position the diaphram is bad.

Mine bogged like that on me last week we rode 120mi that day and it was fine parked it for 3 hrs in -20 weather. And it would not run at all when I pulled the valves they looked awful ran fine after being cleaned. 1000mi on spectro sno-syn & moble prem gas. as far as leakage goes I agree with phantom and would check the diaphram. they had a new and improved diaphram but I would think it came in your sled believe the ones with problems were in 01's black ones were replaced with blue.

Nothing should come out the little hole except air. They aren't that hard to install either. Just take the black cover off, take the spring out, and the weird nut thing. Then the diaphram comes right out. Mine was full of oil which is not normal. After cleaning it with carb and choke cleaner I found a hole in it.

Guess I should have mentioned this before but avoid getting carb cleaner on the diaphrams! It may ruin them!

This was after the fact. I did not use it on the new one. Only to clean the old one that I already new was bad.

Its probably just the cap nut for the diaphram. BTW do you still have your 440cc motor?

prox-600 The little round thing sticking out of the hole when you push in on the valve is normal it's the top of the weird nut used to hold the bladder on. When you put your finger over the hole the valve shouldn't pop back any more than 1/4 " or so, until you release your finger. Hope this helps

Well went over to the barn, and tried them once more before teaing them apart, and this time they only rebouded like maybe 1/4-1/3 of the way, then stayed put??? is this acceptable??Yesterday when i tried them they were right after i rode for bout 25 mins. Theni went and popped the cover off, spring seemd good, looked over the bellowm and it looked good. Popped off the weird nut popped off the bag and had me some oil inside of there...there shouldnt be any right??? This was the same w/the other one as well, I dont see any holes in either of them, i didnt pay attention to what color they were, green i think. I used wd-40 to clean them, is that gonna hurt them like carb cleaner...??

Yes, there will be oil on the inside of bellows. There should not be any outside where the "funny nut" was, unless the bellows is leaking.

Well i managed to have another stupid moment. When i had them all pulled apart, i picked up the valve housing of one of them not thinking, and it of course fell right through to the ground....it only dropped about a ft, but still really pissed me off. Luckily it didnt break anything, it just barely nicked one of the corners, dealer said no probs. but i felt like an ass
Can i spray carb cleaner down where the valve sits in the engine, or will that not be good for something...i see theres oil buildup in there, and dont want to stick anything down there, and scratch it...
i checked the bellow color and it appears that its either green or blue... i dont know....they dont appear to be cracked or punctured anywhere, but like i said earlier, when i tried them hot out of the motor, they wouldnt hold, then when cold today, they seemd to hold ok....
