OK, seems like not everybody agrees as to what is the top of the power valve on my 2002 zr 500.

Does the larger bevel go up or down?

Please respond so we can get a count of up's and down's.

Thanks.

the large or wider bevel definately goes towards the top. if you look in the valve opening with the valve removed you will see at the bottom near the piston 2 reliefs cut into the valve bore. that it where the valve is supposed to stop. if put in with the wide bevel down you will have 2 problems (1) the exhaust port will not be closed off at the top to give you the low port effect which gives you bottom end power. (2) the valve in upside down will not rest on the machined stop and will eventually wear into the cylinder and contact the piston . that causes alot of problems like scored piston, the piston will hit the valve when closed and screw up the thin bolt/pin that goes across the top that connects the cable to it, and it will only get worse as time goes by.but dont take my word, check yourself.hope this helps.

Dimple side down.

What dimple? No dimples on my 500 Zr valve. I wish they had "top" on the blated thing.

Make that "blasted thing".

what are some symptoms when these valves malfunction (stick) my sledd is running very rich no power very low idle(stalls too)

It sounds like your valve are either sticking or the cables are disconnected. I had the same problem on my ZR 800 EFI. The cables were disconnected. I cleaned the valves and re-adjusted the cables. Runs great now.
