this was being talked about in the cat 440 section, and wanted to see if you guys had any good opinions to chime in with. a gas station in a city about 45 min away from me sells 110 out of the pump. im assuming they sell it because of the sprint car speedway about 4 blocks away. the price as of 4 days ago was 4.99$ a gallon. what do you guys think about running this fuel? another member who lives near me said that he has ran it before, but im not sure how much of it he's used. i figured i could ask the manager when it was put into the ground, and if its not to old it shouldn't be a problem i guess, but i know hi octane can be finicky. lets hear it!

how would you find that out? on the pump and the gas stations website it just states "110 octane race fuel".
bluebear
They should have it posted, if not just ask. Motor octane is the number that matters.
jordan123
alright, the station owner/ manager should know this then? whats the difference between research, and motor octane? what if its like say 108 motor octane, is this bad and steer clear, or would it still be safe?

i'm assuming if the station owner doesnt know the answers to my questions i should probably steer clear?
Polaris600RR
I am going there tomorrow evening so I'm gonna stop there and see whats up.

110 R+M/2 will be fine. the research octane is the high number, so for 110 R+M/2 it would be say 115ish, and your motor octane would be 105ish. R+M/2 is what you see at gas pumps, your 87,89,91 etc... is R+M/2. and thats what is referred to almost always unless otherwise stated.

ill be there tommorow morning but prob wont have time to stop at the station, so if you can find out what you can thatd be great. i really dont want to spend 8-9$ a gallon on sunoco stuff, and cant afford to purchase a low comp setup right now.

Was there today and went and looked at the pump and it read 110 R+M/2 Method and was $4.99 a gallon. When I went in to pay for gas I asked the kid working and he said it was filled last towards the end of august. And he said they sell this fuel year around and it's not just filled for the stock car races either. They fill it just like all there other tanks but of coarse it's not going as fast as the other fuels there. Alot of rocket guys buy it in the summer also. And sled guys in the winter I guess. I will be buying it often.

Thats good. Absolutely avoid the places that sell race fuel in the summer and then switch to kerosene in the winter. They never get the tanks drained and theres contamination.

What brand race fuel is this?? I use to get turbo blue from a gas station and pump back home. Now I get it from a towing company with huge above ground containers.

Why should it run hot, race gas burns much cooler, and is normally leaded, so you don't want to put it into anything with a converter.

I wouldn't trust unsealed gas from summer in my sled, but thats just me...

i ran out of gas two winters ago in my truck a few miles out of town. the only thing i had was some 110 mixed up for my sled. dropped in a few gallons and made it home.

not to get off topic, but my buddy was out fishing and dented his tank in his blazer, so on the way home he couldn't get any gas going uphill even thought he had 1/8th left. All they had was a gallon of Canadian Windsor whiskey so they dumped that in his 96 s10 blazer. It was enough to drive the 16 miles back out to a gas station. Please don't try that with a two stroke. Thanks, Craig
