I have the last two weeks of December off and was thinking of setting off on my sled. Maybe heading north out of Maine until I find snow and leaving the truck behind for a week, any ideas?
I know it’s early in the season but, I'll go to Valin if needed. I just don't want to see the same trail twice.
It would be nice if I could do a big loop maybe 1000 miles plus.

If anyone has a route they have done in the past please share.

at least last year that wasn't possible and from what I recall year before that was too early as well. I went to Valin the 15th of December and again the 15th of Jan last year and by the jan trip there was marginal saddlebagging available.

I agree Legend700, these days you need to play it buy ear, last minute decision's.
The last saddle bag trip I did that early in the season was 04/05. conditions was real good.
There are a lot of water crossings along the way, so make sure you ask the clubs in the area where you will be crossing bodys of water / rivers and make sure they are safe.
In 04 / 05 we had contacted the clubs a day or two ahead of time and it was a go, so we headed out.
By the time we got to one of the river crossings, the ice was gone. It had broke up that morning and went down stream, so we had to get intouch with someone that had a trailer, enough for 4 sleds to take us across. It worked out well.
The moral of the story, just play it safe, and plan enough time for reroutes. i_need_snow.gif
