I have a 01 zr800 . The rear sup. dosn't go all the way back up on it's own. It stops just short. Are the rear spring bad or is there some thing i don't see? Any help would be great. dunno.gif :banghead:

have the shocks ever been rebuilt? my 03 standard goes all the way up
but a friends o3 sno pro package has always had some sag even when it was
brand new.

Rebuild the shocks first. The rear might have lost its charge. Go with the heavy springs if you want a more firmer ride. I did works better for me.

Also be sure the rear shock and rear arm mounting bolts aren't overtightened. They can tend to bind and restrict complete compression recovery.
I believe the new ZR's have too small a spring angle. 90 degree's just doesn't offer much preload at the top of the travel. If you go for new springs select some with an 83 or 77 degree angle, like those used back in the '99 and '00 ZR's which never sagged, even with finer spring wire thickness.

You are right, the shock has very little to do with the sup. returning to the up pos. I had a shock guy tell me to just remove the shock and mount it in a vase and compress it all the way and if it returns rapidly to the fully extend pos. your charge is ok and probely so is the shock. I also have a "01" ZR800 and I had the same problem. I bought my sled used. I solved the problem by lowering the front of the S/F close to the stock height. Every one raises the front of the S/F for better steering (this helps) and this increases the weight on the rear of the S/F and springs. I weigh 186# ready to ride.

take the rear shock off , if you can compress it easily with your hands
and it returns really fast , it's toast! just have it rebuilt around $35.

With the rear arm and rail support crossbrace mounted in the third hole on the rail the dist from the rear arm spring coils to the rubber shock pad is 5.5". The dist from the bottom of the front arm mount to the the rubber shock pad is 6.250". With this setup your steering is not that great so you might want to bolt on a set of 1/2"/5/8" with 8" of carbide or slowly raise the front of the S/F for more ski pressure and go with 6" of carbide. Of corse this will get you back to the rear sag again. My sled is loaded or I would give you my setup which has been the best of both worlds. I will be back on Monday so if you need more info give me a holler.
