I was talking with John at WE yesterday and he had mentioned that they were going to try valving the racer shocks like the 600RR shocks. He said it would be an easy swap due to the same shock style. How stiff are those 600RR shocks? I have an 04 pro xr8 with WE shocks but think they are too soft. How does the 600rr compare to the xr to all you shock guru's

i tink john was talking about going back to a convetional piston, they are using a different style piston on the race shocks now, tom (AKIQPILOT) know more then me about them. as for your xr 8 being to soft, how long sense a rebuild? also you can vavle them stiffer really easy, way ceaper them buying new shocks.

I was talking with john for walker evans about his revalving for the racer turned trail. They usually do the 04 xr8 valving. The xr8 rear shock is too soft for me, I ride with it on the highest setting and I have the racer torsion springs. I rebuild my shocks every year. If I ride standing, which I do often, it makes it worse which I will be doing often on the new racer. I don't want new shocks for the xr8, that is the wifes sled now. I am talking about new valving for my racer shocks, john said it would be a simple valving switch to match the 600RR, but I was just wondering how much stiffer the 600RR shock will be than the xr8 valving? If it is going to be similar I will have him valve my racer shocks stiffer. I have never rebuilt or revalved shocks so I am sort of clueless in this category. Thanks Dan

Dan,
I was told the same thing abou the 07 racer shocks. They will change your racer shocks to the old style piston like the pro-xr8. There are a few options on what to do. Tom has a set-up that a lot of people seem to be happy with. I also talked with Mike Gulla and he said that he has a set-up to trail convert them as well. Those are the only two people that I have talked with about these shocks. I haven't called John, but Tom has talked to him. That's where I got my info on what WE was doing to the shocks.

all it would take to make it stiffer is a simple change in vavling. most people that trail convert 440 convert them to the xr 8 specs. well you already ahve that so all you need to do is cahgne the vavling back toward the 440 specs on. it very easy for any rebuilder to so. id suggest sending it to tom or i, john last time i talked to him was crazy busy down there. it might we a little while for turn around. also jb shocks or deycore (steve just had suggery and is kind out for a little while). also i know the 600rr is very similar to the xr 8, once again tom take to john about it so her know much more then me.

Time, you must not be picking up what I am putting down. I am clueless when it comes to changing valving in my shocks and I don't have the equipment yet. I would love to learn to do it myself but I am in the middle of a big project and don't see it happening this year. I am not looking to do anything to my xr8 but maybe sell it when my 07 racer is up and running superb. I just want to know what the difference in valving btw the 600RR and the xr8 is so I can tell john how to valve my 07 racer shocks. I talked with john on tuesday and he said he may favor the 600RR valving. He was going to do some calling around to polaris and what not to see if that is what he is going to convert all the sent in WE for trail conversions rather than the xr8 valving. He thinks that this will be the best setup cause all he will have to change is the valving rather than pistons. I have the 07 shocks which are the same style as the 600RR. I was wondering if anyone had looked into the valve stack or a fische of the 600RR valve stack and could offer some advice to what difference I could expect over the xr8, are they the same, stiffer or lighter. I thought tom would have already looked into this but maybe he is lucky and already has snow. I sat on a 600RR at the dealler today and it seams very stiff in the rear but right on in the front. I have the front stock racer springs but I am also running a heavier motor setup and I am 210 w/o gear on. I already have my shocks sent to John at WE and I need to finalize what I want so he knows what to do when he gets them and I can get a good turn around time. Kerry, I will have to email mike to see what he is running, I just got my vents from him, much nicer finish than the brtech's.

i got you know, i was a tad confused on what you were trying to get at. i dont know what the new 600rr vavling is the only person on know who would know is tom, just pm him he'll tell you im sure. im 99% sure the rr is stiffer then the xr 8 so id just go with that.

Does anybody have the valving for a 600RR or know where i can find it. Thanks

Ask for John @ Walker Evans. He'll hook you up!

I spoke with tom and he warned me not to use the 600RR valving. The rear is ok but goes back to the conventional piston rather than using the new concave piston. The front is also mush. I sat on one at the dealer and I hated it. Tom is currently working on some custom valving. I would contact him and get him your shocks before you send them to John at W/E. W/E is also way behind. They told me about a month to get my shocks back after I had already sent them. I am going to send them tom's setup and have john install it. I want to keep the advantages of the concave piston and have a stiffer setup than the 600RR and 04 pro xr. Tom also rode a 600RR and said that the shock setup was horrible.
