I have a 2000 500ZL, which I need to do some work to. It has heavy springs (center springs?) because the previous rider needed them, however I do not and I don't know where the origional spring(s?) are. In addition, the shocks have never been revalved and I'm thinking it might be time to just buy new ones. Any advice on what to get for new shocks (all the way around? Just the front? Just the rear? Looking for input), or are the stock ones going to be an easy rebuild. How about that spring, is there a good cheap place to pick that up? Lastly, I'll need a new windshield, anyone looking to get rid of one?

All advice, info, and help is apreciated.

Ride on and ride safe.

ZL shocks are not rebuildable. the ZR ones are. You may find it cheaper to buy some Zr shocks and rebuild them if need be rather than buying new ZL ones, even if you go with the more afordable aftermarket shocks. I bet $75 -100 each. maybe more. nothing cheap about sleds. Pull yours out and remove the springs. your shocks may be fine, check for oil leaking around the shafts. You can adjust the springs lighter if they are to stiff for you. Check the clutches over too.

I'm looking into buying new ZR shocks and throwing those in, but have to make sure they fit first. Your price estimate is right on the money for what I'm seeing. Also, the springs are on their lightest setting, they are the heavy springs, put in for another rider. I don't know where the origional springs are, so I have to get a set of new ones, regular not heavy. Thanks for the reply.

Also, while I have an open topic on my sled, can anyone recommend any handlebar risers? I'm looking to raise my handlebars a bit.

Try doing a search. Risers are common with lots of options out there. simple blocks or adjustable units. I'd get a 2-3" block from cat. Guys say you can go 4" on many sleds without having to change cables and what not. I've never done it myself.
