i took a video of it... but the camera isnt fast enough to pick up the quick vibration like i see with my eyes. but watching this is kinda like slo mo of the engine moving... really moves alot watching this. anyhoo i turned the idle up so it runs at 1850-2000 rpm at idle. definitely helped. running at 1600-1750 it vibrated pretty good. checked both right engine mounts and they are good and solid. so live it with.

what kind of can is that, it does look like the stock can?

That is some crazzy shit. That is kinda trippy watching it move that much. Cann't help the clutch parallelism or torque twist.
Don.
P.S. that is the new light weight can for the stock sled. It is stock.

That is strange. I don't know if this'll help or not but are the mounts\bushings on that sled made of rubber? If they are maybe see if they make a polyurathane version, poly is alot stiffer and more resistant to vibes than soft rubber. Maybe that'll help?

no its a black magic can. not stock. im not sure about mount material. im sure all 800's in all models have the same mount material. it made a noticeable difference when i turned up the engine idle a few hundred revs. that video is whack.

My 800 vibrates at idle but didn't think that much (don't have the sled here otherwise I would compare)
There is another mount on the front side of the motor (just right of the oil pump) that connects to the swaybar housing tube. Is that mount there, is it tight?

Looks like the rubber bushing let loose from the mount. It shouldn't move like that at all.

There's an engine mount f'd up or missing on yours. Get 'er fixed.
Here's mine:

I'd agree with that. Saber's looks normal, but your's does look like it wants to leave.
BTW, just listening to these videos is really giving me the itch to ride. Makes me think of the morning fire up and checking things over.

Wow. Im amazed. That sled wont last long with the engine like that. Imagine how much its gonna move once a good load is put on it. And does she always take 3 pulls to start? Only time mine has taken 3 pulls was when I left the kill switch down. I would bring the sled back to the dealer and get it remedied before the snow flies.

Guess I'll have to check my XF Nightfire 800 SP too. This is absolutely crazy to have the engine move around so much. Don't know if it's normal or not.
Normal...Guess it might need torque arm exactly like the ZR 900's causing so much torque and off-clutching alignment causing blown belts, Huh ?. Just a thought ?.

Just A thought. Have you had it out in the grass?
killerrf
Nov 7 2007, 09:41 PM
no i have not had it out on the grass yet... im waiting for enough snow where i can run the engine for a full tank to break it in. running it a little as possible. havent rode it yet.
a fellow on snowest said try turning the clutch a 1/4 turn or something like that and see if the vibs settle or go away. ill check that bottom mount while its running and see if i can feel or see it move. then i will turn clutch and see... if does settle i guess i may have a clutch out of balance or crank out of spec? cant see it being the clutch... like how many people take their shit apart and put it back on without problems. oh well.
when i took it apart i lined up all my lines i made on each sheave. the only lines that didnt like up was the line between the two sheaves. but i dont think the relation to those two matter much. they are only a 1/4" off from when i marked them. but the clutch should be neutral. im going to call the dealer tomorrow and see what he thinks. email him the vid too.

Perfect way to ruin a new sled...I ain't going to do it anyways.

Exactly the same here...Wait for the snow and break in nice and properly then see what happens with the engine movements.

I am not saying to take it out in the grass. That would be bad for a long lug track. Buddy of mine had his poo out in the grass last year and tore out two mounts. I would take it to a dealer before you run it under power. The way that thing was bouncing around you will most likely bend the crank under load.
Good Luck

well i called the dealer and told him about it and he said its good. they ran it at the shop and looked fine to them. suppose to put 500 miles on and if it still shakes bad then start looking for problems. so fuck it. ill run it. if we dont get snow at home ill run to the mountains 4 or 5 times this year and drive the shit out of it and if it blows she blows... if nothing happens i guess i worried too much.
if fiqured that was all the dealer was going to say. im still going to try a few more things and really take a close look at the mounts to see if they tore or something. if i cant find nothing then to the bar i go.
