2004 PRO X 800 with SLP single, SLP air intake, flo-rites, 480 mains, #3 needle, 1000ft ASL, -8 celcius. On 1/4 -1/2 mile WFO run the DET light comes on. I pull the plugs, they are on the dark side of OK. I know guys with 03s are running 460 mains with no problems. I cant run 480s with the thing going off. I am finally getting the sled to perform good and now this starts. I am running out of patience with this sled.

Has anyone pulled the DET sensor out of the cylinder and just ziptied it to the coolant hose? That is what my dealer is suggesting. These DET sensors are way too sensitive IMO.

I called the guys at SLP and they are agreeing that the DET is too sensitive. HTG doesnt even want to sell pipes for the 04s until they get this sorted out!

I need help!

Add a bit of octane boost to your fuel and see if it helps. If it does, you will just have to carry some with you. Use a known brand, like Klotz, VP, etc. Or try turning the fuel switch to reg. setting.

I tried grounding the sensor, and ty-wraping it to the coolent hose, that doesn't work. I believe there is a temp sensor, as well as a knock sensor. when tied off, the light comes on right away, I believe it senses the temp differance. I think HPlover pumped his full of silicon, and someone else said the polaris race tech said the only way to eliminate it is to run the 03 box............ :banghead:

Wrapping the sensor in teflon tape when you install it, and putting some silicone in the hole should deaden it's sensitivity also.

Not an option. There is a HUGE difference in performance between the premium and regular settings. I lose 300 rpms on reg compared to premium.

Yea I put a lite coat of high temp silicone on my sensor and have not had it come on yet . If you take off it has to be grounded to work. Ive been through the whole thing race gas jetted way up and they both helped but just couldnt deal with it any more . So do what you want !! Mine is working fine ........ :div20:

Did you put the silicone on the sensor and then re-install it?

When I took mine off and ziptied it to the coolant hose, the temp light came on then!

Thanks!

Oh yeaforgot if anyone dosent know where it is located its under the back of the head . It takes a 13 mm wrench and looks like a brass hocky puk . On the bottem put silicone and put back in and you problems are over . Take in mind you still need good gas 91 . :div20:

tried a piece of .050 gasket material didn't work going to try a wire from sesor to cylinder head and tape sensor to coolant hose

Silicone seems to be working this morning. Took it for a few hard runs and no light so far.

Sundays ride will be the test.

I will report back with my findings.

Hi Scotty.

2004 PROX2 800 with HTG pipes.

Did a number of WOT runs this morn. in -20C temps. at 850 ft asl.

Never saw DET light once with switch on premium.

Running 450 mains.

Well, the silicone lasted for a while and then the light started coming back on again.

I took some gasket material and trimmed in out in the shape of the DET sensor and put it back together with the gasket material doubled up. 50 hard miles later, no light.

My buddy got pissed off with his and ziptied it (without grounding it) to the throttle cable and let it hang between the airbox and the oil tank and it worked fine with no temp lights.

Now that my light isnt coming on, I have come to the conclusion that 480 mains are way too rich for the SLP single pipe. I am putting 460s in tomorrow.
