It doesn't have power steering that i know of, but the steering is pretty easy. For a 12 year old tho i would recommend a smaller "sport" 4 wheeler that isn't so much weight to throw around. Probably wouldn't need power steering then. Besides that point it would be negligent for your father to let you (a 12 year old) to ride a full size 4 wheeler that has a sticker on it warning against letting someone your age ride such a machine.

Keep in mind these are very heavy machines. Hell I'm 6'4 200+ lbs and have a tough time hanging on sometimes when the diff is locked in 4WD.

Two words buddy "hang on",these bikes are bad ass! Would not let my 12 year old on one.

Personally I think the difference between a grizzly 660 (sorry I have'nt driven the grizz700) and a can-am 800 is night and day. Dont get me wrong, the grizz is a an awesome machine, but the outlander would spank it

. But I think if you will use it mainly as a work vehicle the grizz is better because the outty has too much power (I know I thought it was impossible too). But really the Outty is the most amzing quad I have ever driven. Cant wait to drive the renegade 800!!! Good Luck on your decision.
Oh and by the way power steering really isnt necesary. Definatly would change what quad to buy for that reason...

My dad bought a 07 grizz 700 with power steering last year, and his friend has outlander 800. The grizzly has better handling, and i like the ergoes more. I also felt that the grizzly went threw the snow/mud better than the outlander did. But when it came to drag time. O man was the outlander faster. TYhe outlander is alot quicker, and hasd about 10mph more top end than the grizzly 700 does. In my opinion though neither of these should be ridden by any kid that is 12-13 years old, that is just like asking for a death wish, both machines are 600+ pounds, and would not be anything easy for a 12 year old to handle. In my opinion your dad should get himself a 800 outlander and get you something like a wolverine 450, or a 250cc 4 stroke sport quad depending on your riding style. But if your riding any where off private land your gonna get ticketed pretty good im assuming for a 12 year old riding a 800cc machine recommended for some 1 no younger than 16.

Shit I wouldn't put anyone younger than 18 on one of these big 700's or 800's.

The reason we have so many new restrictions and laws regarding ATV use is people allowing kids on full size ATV's, sorry bud, but there are very few 13 year olds that have the strength lift a full size ATV off themselves when an accident happens. No matter how careful you are acidents happen, ask anybody you want, no body with a working brain would allow a 13 yr old on a full size ATV, go look for a 250 or 300 and live to grow into a 700 or 800.
Ps. I'm only alive now because of luck --not lack of skill.

I dont recomend even trying to ride a yfz 450 at your age, itll be alot harder than riding a grizzly or a outlander, you would kill yourself even faster

No it's not. This is coming from someone who owns a high displacement ATV and who is mature enough to what they are capable of.

Im easily capable to ride and outlander or a grizzly, And im 15. These 2 quads are not hard to ride at all, they are actually probley easier than my 450, but it wouldnt be right to put soem one who is 12 on a quad like them.
one ton fun
Nov 13 2007, 05:50 AM
When I was 13 I had a honda 250ex. That was a great quad to start off with. At 15 I bought a 400ex and was perfectly capable of handling it. Now I have a 2007 Yamaha Big Bear 400. I chose this machine because it was simple. No belt to deal with, diff. lock, mudlites etc. At first I wanted the Outlander 800 until I saw how weak they are. Dont drop one on its ass going over 10mph cause that subframe is gonna bend up atleast 2 inches and crack your fenders. I decided a 400 class machine would be all i need. If I could go back and do it all over again i would purchase a Honda Foreman 500. That right there is one rugged machine!

I've never seen a more HP killing someone tearing through a mudhole. It's the faggots on the 450s, Raptors, and others that kill themselves.

Hopefully your not concluding (Spelling) that i'm a faggot because I do not ride on of those. It doesn't matter what you ride these days, someone is going to kill themselves being dumb or thinking they are a hero.
BTW I have a sportsman 500 HO. Not a real speed demon. Pretty much clears the driveway in the winter.

No I was pointing that towards you, just saying those are the people that think they are racers because they have a 450.
I got my Cat 700 because of it's versatility. Cruising speed, pulling power, ease of mudding, ground clearance. I'm not one of those Little Man Syndrome people that thinks they need to have a big machine to be "manly".

This kid should look into a Grizzly 350, it just had a pretty good review on dirt tracs tv show. I have an 03 660 Grizzly that I love to ride, it goes through just about everything, and plows like a champ. Dont get me wrong that 800 outlander is one bad mamma jamma, and i'd love to have one!! good luck

Possibly im nto sure that me nor most people can lift a 600-700 pound machine off them when pinned to the ground by themselves. Doesnt mean im not capable to ride the machine. When riding a atv as you no you have to be smart, if you dont no your own limit your gonna end up in trees or upside down.
And i do also agree with you sayign people on the 450 and other faster sport quad are the ones killing themselves, mostly because it si people who think they can handle them and cant and try to go over their own limit

It sounds to me like you have a handle on reality, unlike many your age. Yes I'm only 5 years older but that's 5 more years of being around.
What I mean is, someone 20 years old is probably going to have a better reaction time, and more experience than a 15 year old for that one time the machine might tip, or come over back onto you. No way in hell I'm going to be able to lift my 700 off if it falls on me, but...I may have a better chance at avoiding it.
