Full Version: 2003 XC/SP 800 having problems

I am posting for a friend of mine who can't get online.

He bought a new 2003 xc/sp 800 last year and put 800 miles on it.

We had some grass drags a few weeks ago and his sled ran real lean and wouldn't tach out.

The temp was about 65 degrees. His sled was the only sled that had that problem.

The plugs were white.

We need some suggestions on what the problem might be. It ran fine last winter.

We pulled the carbs and they are't plugged.

We did find a torn gasket on one Rave valve. We don't have the new one yet but could this be his problem?

If not what else should we check?

Thanks Brett

Check your main jet I.D. real well, sometimes a small amount of varnish can go un-seen, and even a slight closing of the main jets will lean it down. Were the plugs new? It takes time to color them up, did he change jets for the outside temps. too much fuel will not allow the motor to "tach out"

Yes the plugs were new but we could get color in them at idle. Just had problems at WOT

He drained the carbs before winter also.

It takes some miles and time to color up the plugs, try a set which have some color to them, you may actually have an over rich condition.

I second that. New plugs need some miles to get color on them.

OK, I will pass on the info, but that still doesn't explain why it was cutting out and not reaching the rpm's?

He left pretty hard but about 300 feet out the sled fell on it's face.
