Stay away from the Twin ZZ Lift at Royal. My wife bought me one of these for Christmas last year. The 3rd time up and the main worm gear seized and I only have a 500. An Apex would have killed this thing. The kid behind the parts counter said they had a bunch of them coming back from some very unhappy customers. I'm surprised their still selling them at all.

I bought one of the cheapies from Royal and changed the crap pieces that hold the rubber mounts. I drilled an additional hole on each side and put on aluminum angles and mounted the rubber mounts on the angles. As far as the going up n down it has"nt fallen apart yet. After looking at it assembled I thought what a cheap piece of crap that would"nt cost any more than $50 to build.

RevMolester bought one of those as well and it is the biggest POS going. The crank handle to put it up and down didn't work worth a damn after a couple uses.

Royal let me pay the difference (about $150) to upgrade to their good lift. It is a one peice unit, all welded with a winch instead of a worm gear. Had absolutely no problems with this one. I looked in the catalogue and I don't even think they sell the good one anymore, But they still sell the crappy one. Go figure.

You cant buy the Marlift from royal anymore. I tried the ZZ lift and it folded like a cheap lawn chair with a Viper on it. Royal will give you some BS story about law suit to Marlift and they are out of buisness. Bull talked to him a week ago and lift came 3 days later. Go to www.mar-lift.com or ca

I built mine for under fifty bucks in less than 4 beers. I used 2x2 tube, cut up some old track to mount on the support blocks for non-slip and I tacked an old socket inplace of the crank handle (it goes up in 5 seconds with my air gun). It is as solid as the best of them.

I was looking at the twin zz at Royal and the parts guy told me to go to CT. Told me the one they have works much better. Think I might make my own, at least I'll know who to blame if it doesn't work!

Rec Lift is the original lift you are looking for. Not sure if anyone in Ontario is a distributor for them. I have had one for a few years now that I bought from Haydays and it works flawless. Once you work on your sled with one of these you will wonder what you did before you owned it. If you were to send a Pm off to GeerboxF7, he had a bunch made up and they seem to be a real good version of the Rec Lift, he even has a wheel kit for them. Maybe he has a few left.

Can it be used with a drill ?Are the wheels lockable ?

I'm sure it could be adjusted to fold down to 7", never really looked at them like that. And yes the wheels are lockable. The whole lift weighs about 60lbs, the wheels another 12-14lbs
hope this helps

If you buy the Mar lift, get the shin pads as well because you will be kickint that thing as it will never be somewhere where it won't be in your way. Works good but not place to store it. The rec lift folds dead flat (3") and can hang on your wall or at least lean against it.

I use an impact gun on mine and no problems. The heavier trailer jacks use thrust bearings and are not gonna sieze up.
I was just given a big ass air cylinder with switch valves and am looking to modify the one I built like so many others have. As for the Marlift, Redsled nailed to a tee on Knee pads and tripping over it.

Most of the guys on here (Me included) have made them.
Mine works awesome. You couldn't pay me enough to have a marlift, my buddy has one, darn thing sticks way out infront of the sled. And I'm not sure, but can you take a marlift up say 2 3 inches off the ground and leave it there all summer with your sled on it?? That's how mine sits. And it's short enough to fit in the back of my truck for weekends up north!

The jacks are regularly on sale at Princess, the attached drawings show the min required extention. I think mine had a 15" extention rated for 5000lbs

The Marlift has worked for me for 5-6 years no problems. Get the winch with the brake and a set of wheels and it"s unbeatable. To store it I just installed two hooks on the wall and hung the thing parralel to the ground with the winch in the corner. Out of the way. It is very stable with the apex sitting on it,(it will hold the sled as high off the ground as you like) my 73 Alouette does'nt fit though the track is too wide. I even bought one to lift the golf carts at work and do brake service on them. They are located right here in Manotick.
