They cant predict todays weather let alone 11 days out. Sorry but this past summer was horrible for weather predictions. It rained on days that were calling for mostly sunny and it was sunny on the rain days

If you do your research back 30plus years, you could ride snodeo weekend 7 out of 10 years in Old Forge NY. Keep your fingers crossed. 70/30 chance.

The winters were much better 30 years ago. I remember when I was a kid and the snow would bury the sliding glass door completley! Havent seen a winter like that in a long time. I own a place in Old Forge and most of the time it rains on Snodeo weekend. Not trying to be negative but its better to expect the worse and not be disappointed. Usually after Christmas its good to go.

The ground is still to warm for anything (even a foot or more) to stay around long.
Ground needs to freeze first or all you get is mud all season, creeks and swamps need to freeze up too or they will be flowing all year under the snow = more mud.

Last two Thanksgivings I drove into camp with light flurries in the air, after an hour or two at camp it was a white out and I moved my truck to the parking area on the plowed road. We got quite a bit both years but it was gone in a week or so because the ground was too warm.

Negative post, converse to reality. It does not rain most of the time on snodeo. I can easilyi prove it, i have journals dating back to the 70's. Yes, OF did receive more season snowfall back in the 70's, including some real whoppers. However, facts are facts. Funny how people forget the snodeo weather. Snodeo 05 I crossed 4th lake from northwoods to my camp. Not saying its perfect riding, but the whole point is to get out there and start the sport off. Time tells the tail.

Says 9*F thursday. I'd say the ground will give up it's heat after a few of those days/nights. BRRRR!!

First Big Lake-Effect Snowfall

Uncommonly mild October weather held off the first significant lake-effect snowfall throughout the northern Great Lakes, but a strong push of chilly air will help set the stage for some heavy snow across Michigan. The most widespread heavy snowfall will blanket the interior of the state's Upper Peninsula; a few spots in the interior of the Lower Peninsula will also surpass six inches of snowfall. Because of the warm October weather, the lakes are unusually warm, so along the immediate coasts of Lake Superior, Michigan and Erie, rain will mix with snow and hold down any accumulations.

Converse to Reality? Dude I have not ridden a Snodeo weekend in forever! You rode across 4th lake in 05? Wasnt it pouring rain on snodeo weekend 2005? Wasn't the oldforge shootout a mud pit in 05?

I call it snodeo 2005, but to start off the 2006 season in December 2005, we rode snodeo from south shore rd., old forge, inlet etc.. We actually went all the way out to Stillwater and number 4, the roads were pretty good. OF received 6 inches of snow thursday along with some earlier that week. So yes, i rode in december 2005 for snodeo. I rode last year as well. Got a ticket on the south shore rd for speeding on the way to the dons polaris party. Yeah, the trails usually have no base, but the roads are good to go if it snows.

So DUDE, you have nothing to back up your comments. Eat some fish to jogg that memory of yours, unless old age is setting in already. Get in the game.

I rode the seasonal rodes on the hill last year while everone was at snodeo. What a blast for the first ride of ther year if i remeber there was 2 ft on the ground.

Smart Man.

I hope this year the idiots STAY OFF THE TRAILS until hunting season is OVER and the water holes freeze over. Tug Hill has been a mess in recent years, just because a few couldn't just wait a week or two let the water holes freeze over and a base build up.
