My brother bought a tach for his 2006 Indy 500 edge, we unpluged the temp light and plugged in the tach, when you start the sled it doesn't show the idle rpm's and when the clutch does kick in it only shows it kicking in at 1500rpm's, when you hook up a tach on a sled that didn't come with one do they need to be calibrated or anything certin need to be done for them to work right? thanks for any help!

Why would the temp. light and tach take the same wire?

Well here is the deal i have a xc 500sp 2006, and when we looked at mine it is the same wiring harness as what his temp light was plugged into, also on the 06 indy 500 a tach was an option which means it could have one, other wise it would say N/A....so one would think that a tach would just plug in, if the wiring harness is right there...i mean the factoy's want to make things as fool proof for owners/ the shop mechanics as they can thus meaning they wouldnt want the mechanic's at the shop spicing wires where there would be room for human error

you got the wrong tach. does the sled have a 500 fuji or liberty engine? if it
has the fuji you need a 2 pulse tach. the liberty uses a 6 pulse tach. it will say
on the back of the tach what pulse it is. I found this out with my wifes classic 500
I put a 6 pulse in and it did the same thing.

thanks for the info, i guess that's what happens when you buy 2nd hand parts from swap meets without doing the leg work 1st

yup thats it. I did the same thing on my 03 Indy 500 Fuji 488. Got one on ebay 6 pulse. Luckly the guy took it back and gave my money back. So I just went too the dealer and got one.
