My 03' 440 runs good, but I would like to get the little thing a little louder.
I don't know of anyone that produces a can for it.
Has anyone tried the jaws do it yourself idea?
I know a few welders.

Thanks for any info.
mr.prox
the stock silencer is as loud as its gonna be without sacraficing performance. if you want it louder drop a bigger motor in it and join the retard crew wrecking it for the rest of us and run loud pipes.
sorry for the hating, but this topic is done to death and some people just dont get it. loud pipes are for racing(on a race track) not trails/ditches. all it does is give the greenies and non sleder that are trying to close more areas more fuel.

just my .02

I have been visiting this site for about two years. I know all about the dead horse that has been beat over and over.
I wasn't asking for anyone's opinion on decibels and the results of them.

Thanks for all the info., bump to someone that is helpful or has experience with this situation.

I can be helpful because I have experience with this situation. You will gain nothing other than noise. No hp, no torque, so I must ask, wtf is the point if you're not gaining anything by it performance wise? BTW this is NOT an opinion, just facts.

Bump for more helpful info.

Peter and everyone else here is right. If you want to slow down, change your clutching and jetting and make a lot of noise to impress you teenage friends here is a helpful suggestion.

Remove your Can and U tube completely. With your sled in your parents garage, have a couple of your friends hold up the rear. Now start it up and instantly hold the throttle taped. Don't let go of the throttle...ever. Now have your other buddy, the one with the big grin, head over and close the garage door. Don't let go of the throttle. In about 2 minute your mom or big sister will come into the garage and start yelling. Let go of the throttle and grab the brakes. When she asks "What are you doing" tell her this is the new fad, all the kids in 8th grade are doing it. She'll say, "you won't be in 8th grade for 2 years so KNOCK IT OFF."

Hope this helps.

That was the dumbest thing I have ever heard in my life, if he is ridding a 440 chances are it's a play sled for his own land, here is my 2cents, mod cans sound sweet! As for a make shift fit all kit i wouldn't waste my money, if it isn't a direct fit it will end up being a pain trust me, as far as no hp gains and so on, i don't know if that is true or not, i know you were only looking for the bling factor of having a mod sounding sled, but in my past piping, dirtbikes, atv's and so i has always made more power bar none! As far as snowmobile cans they WILL get you tickets on the trail if they are loud, I have a Ultra-Q can on my 06 xc 500, it is deep tone like a stock one maybe just a tad bit louder than stock but i dont think so, so my word to you is if you are trail ridding put a quite can on like a super-Q, but since you have a 440 you won't even find a can out there, I have only seen cans for ski-doo 440 and i think Cat's...sorry man

1. Stick around, as more and more newbies come aboard you'll hear plenty of dumb stuff.

2. And you know this....HOW???

3. You got that one right.

4. BINGO...we have a winner. Nobody makes a can for the '03 440 so any Can he tries to come up with is just going to be loud and waste HP.

As hard as it for some people to realize we are trying to save the sport by discouraging youngsters from wasting money on something that is going to piss off land owners and get our trails closed. But thanks for your input.

if you really want it just make it. in like an hour or two you can make a can. if sound is what your after that what you can do. that or drill about 50 1/4 inch hole in the can, well while your at it pipe to. dude i have been in your shoes, being a kid (well i still am one) you just want to look cool, well look cool by how well you ran ride, not how loud your sled it.

It's frustrating to watch hours of work go away because some dumb kid runs the trail at 2am with a can. We struggle to maintain our trails it sucks that people make it harder for us.

Geez 150, thanks for the resonable response and yes you would be correct with your assumptions.

Not that it matters, but
I have been riding for a long time, I'm not new here to this forum and not new to sledding or life for that matter.
The sled is for fun on about 1,000 ac that I pay the bills on.
I'm not concerned about what the neighborhood watch, the state, or anyone else thinks.

I'm aware that performance gains are not available through this route and I'm pretty sure the original question doesn't mention hp in anyway.

Sooooooooo, your point is............? Quit beatingdeadhorse.gif You're obviously not getting any help/quarter from this group. Rather than reinforce the fact that you're a glutton for punishment, why don't you just forget about the whole topic, run a straight pipe and be done with it?

I guess the only point is that every person that posted here except one took the original messsage out of context and didn't answer anything.
I was told everything I already know.

I don't think we took your message out of context. Here is what we got out of your original message:

"Hey, does anybody make a can for my 440 so I can make it louder and slower at the same time?"

And the answer is NO.

Of all the questions asked on Snowmobile Forums today, thats the one thats guarenteed to get a negative responce. And I hope you can see why.

If you were told everything you already know, then you obviously don't know shit, otherwise you wouldn't be asking where you could locate a wicked sweet loud can for my sled that is not only going to rob me of hp, make my ears ring, not piss off anyone on my 1000+ acre parcel that I pay taxes for and make me look super cool for the guys in my shop class. That doesn't sound "out of context" to me, sounds more like it answers everything for you, but then again, you already knew that, so I don't know why we're even bothering to tell someone what we know if he already knows that we don't know what he in fact already knows that we know.

i think everyone here loves and admires a decent sounding set of pipes/can or w/e the heck it may be.
the problem is trails. in some places if there is NO trails, there is NO riding. SOS means save our sport. u dont save anything by adding noise. if you ride only your own land... then get a jaws performnce do it urslef kit. its cheap and LOUD and OBNOXIOUS. and if you dont like it, you can always sell it to some other kid who wants to look "cool".

personally i have a can on my 440. i also have a spare engine that i run when using it, and i use it on my land, mainly my sno-x track and some drainage ditches along a river that flows thru my farm. personally i like the sound. i dont care about looking cool and what not... i only like the sound for myself.
Die Hard Poo
Maybe he wanted it for weight reduction. That would be one of the reason I would of done this, but heck what do I know
Nymann
or... he could duct tape his throttle 1/8 of the way, and run behind it in the snow trying to catch it. he could lose weight that way too....
MXthor113
dahahahahhahahahahha, that was great, and like you said, EVERYONE LOVES A NICE SOUNDING SLED, you cant say that you dont like it when ur in ur truck stopped some where, and u can jsut hear that crisp sound of a "mod" ripping through a feild. whaaaaaap, sounds sick yeah, but then again you gotta think of what hes using this sled for, if ur riding little town trails you dont want to even bother putting a can on it, peopel wonder why trails get closed, i had a buddy with a 600 with a can on it, and i had the same sled with out a can, and i always wanted his can because his sled had that beefy sound when ideling, and when he opend it up she sounded great, but it wasnt too loud, that was the great part, but hey, if hes just bombing around on his own land, he can run it with not pipe or anything at all, untill someone complaines......

What I don't understand is why someone would want a can for their 440? Okay, they're not so ear screeching loud that your ears bleed when you ride it... But they have such a nice tone and they are clearly louder than any stock sled Ive heard. I love the sound of my sled and wouldn't have it any other way ( I guess maybe the sound of a 600 under the hood would be nice whistle.png )

If you want a can, go for it. It won't have as nice of a tone as the stock set-up IMO and it won't have the power either. I have to say that at least (granted he is being truthful) he is riding on 1000 acres of his own land, so if anyone can here it, they shouldn't be on your land anyway!
E.L POWERSPORTS
if your riding on your property or on a track or somewhere where people aren't going to hear you and get pissed off and become anti-sledders then its nice to have a sweet sounding sled, but if your gonna be running through town and what not your gonna do a lot more harm than good (not that any good will come from making a 440 louder) but what i have done to a few 440's to make them a little louder for the track was cut the can in half with a plasma cutter, cut all the insides out, then weld it back together. i'm not one to rag on someone for running loud pipes because i run twins on all my sleds, but i also run my sleds on the track or in the bush where its just me and my buddies. if i even find myself on my sled around peoples houses i try to be courtious and just keep the sled at a steady speed instead of hammering the throttle to the bar and splitting their ear drums. i know where you guys are comming from with trails closing all the time because of people being dumb on private property, so your probably better off just keeping it how it is and not making any enemies because your loud sled closed someones favourite trail.

I'm really sorry for starting this.

Die Hard is just a local who thinks he wants a piece of me but he knows he has to be nice untill we finish his build next week. He bought one of My '08 racers and we will be trail converting it starting on about 11/08. Trail Tank, Clutched, Geared, ProTapers, Riser, C&A's and an AkRacing tune up. It won't be too extravigent just a nice ditch banger.

We'll be taking lots of pictures and keep yu guys posted.

There are a lot af Alaska boys who visit these Forums. I need to be careful who I mess with so they don't get a bad rep.

Anyway, it's snowing around here and I'm getting excited.

PS....beerhunter still owes me a few licks so if he takes a swing at me...I deserved it.
