Need more info on where are you riding????? and your weight with your gear on.
Mountains,Trail busting, Lake running, Groomed Trails?????
Stock they are pretty good all around.
IMO I am going up in gear with the addition of 10 to 15 HP on the 800.All flat land riding though.
Sled rocks in the grass stock.
Minor adjustment in clutching necessary if anything.
Wont know for sure till the snow shows.
You got to ride em before you change em.
Dont let the rumor mill get ya.

If you read Dootalk, you will see this has been discussed. Bill at Cudney Racing has done alot of testing and says dropping one tooth to a 26 will give more low end and a little more on top for flat land riders. Clutches will shift out more completely.

Check Cudney Racing..he sells a gear for $25...I think it's a 26 tooth and say a 5 mph top end gain.

You should get a roll cage for yours nutkick.gif You'll have to come up to Port when the lake freezes for a little brake in session...it's really wide open so you shouldn't hit anything.

Well Said nutkick.gif - I think that is my XP buddy(Warren) from Port picked yours up yet- you and your buddy shadow will have to come up for some powder riding this winter

I was thinking more along the lines of you coming up to Port when the lake freezes over for a little session of " run the gun "....you can probably drive better straight these days

Doesnt dropping teeth make for better low end and mid range but take away from your top end.....??

...not if it is overgeared. If the manu's did not overgear there sleds a bit, there would be lots of over rev blow-ups on some nice -30 morning.

This makes no sense!!! The 800r should have plenty of ponies to pull that gear, gearing down loses top sped!
Ultrastryk
No, gearing down does not always lose top end. If your clutches are not opening all the way, dropping one tooth will cause them to open further and you will gain low end and top end.

Bill at Cudney Racing has already done this testing and found that dropping one tooth will improve overall chassis speed. See the thread on dootalk.com

Hope you're right, I have a 26 on the way. Can't hurt to give it a try, one of the least expensive add-ons.

I took Bill Cudney's advice on my 06 and dropped one tooth before installing his clutch kit. I had a great holeshot and didn't lose any top end. Put a magic marker line on your clutches and you will see that they are shifting out further.

Dootalk.com has more Skidoo experts. Give it a try if you haven't already.

it sure did'nt on my 08 800 ho. at that time i went with a clutch kit from goodwyn and they suggested 1 tooth down as well. it worked great. gonna try cudney's kit this year along with the 26.
