i don't know how you measur the lugs, i measured from the inside all the way to the outside edge of the track and it said 1". This is on my '98 zr 500, is this the stock size? and i was wondering if i could reuse the studs, even if that means new nuts?

Yep, that's how they are measured. your track is about 1/4" thick so the lugs are actually .75 or so. You likely have a cat .85 or 1.0 track. hold the stud up against the side of the track with the head flush with where it should be seated. Get new nuts and go at it if they are long enough.

the headache of removing the studs makes it not worth it to me but hey thats all up to you weather or not you want to use them
if its a trail sled shop around you can find studs for 1 to 150 a peice with backers and nuts
a buddy of mine does that and at the begining of each season he goes through them and replaces what he has to
this is your best bet in my eyes
unless you just bought the studs and your track blew out dont try to save the old studs
its not worth it the time
and if your not racing dont buy the extreemly expensive studs as your going to tare them up on the roads and rocks
I pmd you a link to some realy cost effective stainless steel studs that will in no means brake the bank

Being that your sled is a 500,you're better off replacing your studs with new ones since you only need 96
for your type of machine.
It's much easier to just install new ones because if some are bent the only way to get the nut off is to cut it off
and your stud is then scrapped anyways.
Stronger 800 is probably right about the .875 lug height, you could use 1.00 inch Woody's 7mm studs on your track with good results
and they cost less than 5/16 studs which have larger washers and nuts.
Good luck !

I was thinking that the studs must be in good shape, maybe they are fairly new? and that he just wanted to know if a stud could be re-used in general. If they are going to stick up past the lugs enough for him and they come out O.k., then why not save a few bucks and take them out. Hell, on a 500, if they thread off and tighten back down good, I'd reuse the nuts too.

I shot him a link where he can get packs of 24 stainless steel studs backers and nuts for 29 dollars so thats about 1.20 a stud so he would only need 4 packs for 96 studs thats dirt cheap
if I were him I would go ahead and order a 5th pack so that he has the studs to replace studs as they ware or bend on him
