Full Version: 215 HP vs 160 HP

André
MY friend has a 00 MACH Z Millennium edition pretty much stock except for lots of chrome and a clutch kit, has around 160 HP, and has a top speed of 121 on radar.
well we met up with a guy on Saturday that had a stock looking Formula 3 but he had sent the engine to Ontario and it ended up costing him around 3 thousand dollars and they had got it up to 215 HP.
well he was bragging about that his sled was the fastest sled in are area, so he asked my friend if they wanted to race, he agreed and then they got side by side and the Mach Z had him from the start to the finish!
The guy was really depressed that he had lost.
The Dumb ass was running the stock single pipe!
LOL we had a good time. frech11.gif

I find that hard to believe! Center pipe or not, if indeed he had 215 hp under the hood he should have won.

There are a lot of factors though, like hook up, rider weight, clutching.......................................................

The FIII 800 is a mach Z with single pipe.
André
belive it or not.
they were both not studed and both had short luged track.

The only reason that i would say that that is possible is if the gearing between the two sleds is different.

Look at the power to weight ratio. If they are really close then somone is BSing someone here.

What kind of person would 3 g`s on the h.p and Not Stud the track? Traction is king
so don`t go by this results .If you can`t get it to hook don`t pull the trigger!
Cape Breton Stock........ :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: flag_canada.gif flag_usa.gif

the guy w/ 215 hp is a liar theres no way even with out the hook up he would have passed sometime in the race :argue: :argue:

What i don't understand is that if you have a 215 hp motor why are you trying to run it through a single exhaust. The speed shop he took the motor to must be called retards are us, didn't they tell him to get pipes? Even a set of stock triple pipes.
Doo-Rider
it could have a collapsed pipe, if it read 215hp on the dyno that's what it has.

But triple pipes would deffinately let it breathe better. They are the cheapest way to gain a lot of HP.

I also find it hard to believe he has 215 hp and still has the single pipe. Wouldn't that be the first thing to change??????? :frech32:
fiver
The very first performance add on is definitely studs. :frech32:

I'd be amazed if that motor had 120hp on the single pipe.
Doo-Rider
....................Mine has 135, stock!

Triple pipes don't add 35HP (stock triples at that!!) Heck aftermarket ones only add ~25HP.

Unless you have a Polaris Ultra....claimed 43HP.

You can push well over 120 horse through a single pipe....i just dont get why you would want to?
Doo-Rider
I didn't want to, but the factory did.

Single pipes have more bottom end power, and the mid range is good also. The big advantage of triple pipes is top end power.

The Firecat has ~140HP and a single pipe, why not twin pipes?
ZR900?
Rev 800?
Pro X 800?

Adding pipes from the factory costs money...plus what fun would it be to have a sled that you had no need to hop up frech11.gif

Plus this way you can customize your sled to your riding style. It's like.....why didn't Ford make the Mustang up to it's potential?? Well, it costs more money and starts losing drivability....this is the same case.

Fact of the matter is, 215hp VS 155-160hp, the 215hp Mach would have taken it, even giving the stock guy a 300' head start. A 55-60HP advantage would be soooooo obvious during a long drag race.

Theres something fishy here.

Also, you can't get 215hp, without Triple pipes, a big bore kit(about 1050cc), and all the other tricks and whistles, that $3000.00 would buy. No way in Hell. PERIOD.

A Mach with pipes, base gasket and head job, Aftermarket reed cages, etc will only net an honest 185-190hp. Even that kind of power over a stock Mach-Z would be no contest in a drag race.
rev madman
I had a 98 mach 1 last year I put on psi pipes, v force reeds and air box mod. My friend has a 01 machz and of coarse we raced. I had a sled and a half on him, there is no way that that guy could of lost and not know proir that his sled wasn't just crazy to hang on to. ooh4.gif
97mach1
I sure would like to be the guy that he paid the $3,000 to. That would have been some easy money.

My not so stock 97 Mach 1 (porting, head mods, clutching, jetting) has beat it's share of Mach Z's, but it's also lost to it's share of them, too. Setup goes a long way. I've lost to stock Mach Z's, and beaten some guys with some big $$ spent on mods.
Doo-Rider
The thing about modifing a sled is that they require different set-ups for different humidity levels, temps, altitudes.......................

But with a stock one they seem to work great all the time. If you know a lot about set-up it's alright, but if you are like me constantly adjusting things isn't your thing.
98MACH1
unless the people you take it seriously screw stuff up and you have to figure out how to it set yourself.

trust me that sucks. veryangry.gif
