Do not go to Island Pond for any reason. Tell everyone you know to not go. They vote him in so, if no one comes to there town good.

I rode my new Road King up through IP about a month ago with some friends I warned them in advance about Teddy and they thought I was joking. Anyways they ended up rolling right through that same stop sign that is mentioned in the newspaper story. Me being the idiot that I am, followed them, looked both ways and rolled right through smiley-faces7.gif .

Poor old Teddy missed me that time. He must have been on break eating donuts. yelrotflmao.gif

Got me on my bike 2 years ago. $195.00 for the donut fund. I haven't been back on my bike or sled. Too many roads, not enough time for that crap.
one ton fun
Great article! It is just a matter of time before he is voted out!

Interesting reading, especially since the "violator" didn't write to the editor. Maybe the violator will plead not guilty and get his/her day in court.

Sure is amazing! There not even flatlanders and they get harrased. When will this crazy dooshbag be stopped? Im just curious when the hell he will ever be gone. Can you imagine the revenue that us sledders would pour into island pond if he would just dissapear, flatlanders and locals alike. I bet we would probably spend more money in the winter then what that ass makes in stupid tickets. And i dont want to hear! THE LAW IS THE LAW!

Are you asssuming that there is a conspiracy of ted miller. I read your post time and time again and you seem to favor this man? Why are so many people wrong? How many people do we not hear about? I for one won't step foot in IP I have friend that i ride with every weekend once in awhile they'll head of to IP ask if i'm in .NO WAY i won't spend one cent in that place till this clown is gone, the first weekend he's otta there I'll be there gauranteed

I haven't taken sides in any of these blogs. I have provided other thoughts than some of the writers. The editorial should have been written by the person involved in the motor vehicle stop. Otherwise, the comments would be considered hearsay. It's nice to live here in the USA where we have choices, to travel to where we want and avoid other locations like metro areas. Also, I don't "assume" anything. I'll leave that for others.

The attorney general for Essex County has made me aware that he will over throw any of Teddys tickets that he finds unreasonable... he has done it many times... dgree can vouch for that statement.

People so full of hate will never ever get anything out of this.
Thier are totally other ways to get rid of him.
So keep not going to Island Pond and you never will get to as long as theres a Ted....
Its a beautiful place maybe its best its kept for the locals.
I know that some of these out of staters come up and treat locals so bad that seriously maybe its a good thing to have an Asshole cop scaring everyone away....
I just showed my house in Island Pond to a total ass from Rhode Island.... and let me tell you Vermont is not the place for him and definately NOT Island Pond... he wants the suburb style cookie cutter manifucatured home you would find in a city, not wild Vermont or I.P... so just maybe I.P. is better off in the end... keeping it all to themselves. Being a self sufficient town.
I am just so sick of people bitching but taking no action, if you LOVE it then care, if you hate it, don't have an opinion it doesn't affect you.

I go to Island Pond everytime I ride my sled in the NEK. Its a 5 min ride from our camp and the closest gas stop. I kind of hope that these people stop going becuase I can tell you it is the most torn up trails in the area. And this maked it hard for me to belive that the town is lossing any bussiness.. It seems to be the most crowded place in the NEK. I also agree with jacqueline about how people are moving up there and trying to change lifestyles of the town people. We got our camp 4 years ago and when the town people heard that we were from CT they were nevous that we would come in and develope the land.... well now everytime I am up there locals come and we talk and converse. They realize I was there to enjoy the beauty of the area and not to turn a profit. People need to realize that it might be a vacation spot for them but people acutally live there and have to deal with the out of towners who harrass their land by throwing beer cans on the trail and not putting their tharsh in the garbage. I think teddy is tough but he is showing that he isn't going to let the out of towners disrespect his town.
catrrider600
Exactly. I don't ever see a lack of people in town when there's snow on the ground. I like I.P. (actually anywhere in northern VT for the way it is), Not like the everyday assholes where I live. Here in my area, some days I think I'm living in San Quan and I'm the minority.

Anyway, I've been riding snowmachine in the NEK since the late 80s. Back then, I.P. was kind of a wild place with snowmobiles riding the streets and sidewalks, and a lot of whoopin' it up till all hours. The locals got tired of it and voted in some law and order. It's too bad that the current constable is the way he is, but that's what the old timers want. They have their railroad or state pensions and could care less if snowmobilers (or any tourists) left and never came back.

I'm sure in a couple years, Teddy will be gone, but I don't believe he keeps many people away, from the crowds I see at the Irving on a weekend during the winter.

Exactly Gader, I wasn't gonna say anything, but most State officials know about Teddy and are willing to help us out anyway they can. I always say "its not what you know but who you know"

I don't know how blatant the violation really was. But it seems the fine was out rages. 200 bucks is a lot of money plus add 2 points thats way over board. I'd fight it, unless of course I was really guilty then I'd own up, pay up and shut up....

Its to bad for non locals to get caught in his traps. In a vehicle with the stop signs or speeding and on a sled with the trail closed due to the train being in the way. Which means an 11 mile loop of beaten trails to get to the nearest gas station. Now that doesn't make sense with the same gas station just about in eye sight....There has to be a better way.

(ok don't kill me) but I was wondering if Teddy did ANY law enforcement that would make us proud?

I have been riding in Island pond for 4 years now. Rent a house on the lake. It seems like everyone knows about teddy and complains about him but still does the same things to get pulled over. If you know all he does is sit at that same spot and get you fornot stopping at the stop sign. Just stop at it. sit there for 7 seconds then go. What is and extra 6 seconds out of oyur life to save a ticket. Why let that asshole ruin a good riding place. Just avoid the obvious of what he is looking for.

Hey jacqueline.....are you selling your house?
I too have been reading these posts time and time again. We go to IP every weekend and we have never been pulled over and given a ticket because we know where Ted hangs out, we know where he is, and we take the extra time to make sure that we stop and wait at teh stop sign and that we don't go down the one way. I agree with sledneck20: What I don't understand is, if everyone pays attention and does what they are supposed to do...how are people getting tickets???? If everyone stays out, it will make it a lot easier for us to get out of IP and out to Derby, Canaan and Norton and to come back in. I hate the bumps coming back on 114!

Easy, you have a (constable) Wannabe Cop, with an eye for entrapment. Isn't it sad that people have to bring their own video cameras with them to show proof that they in fact did NOT break any laws while driving through Teddy the Ticklers town??

All I am saying is that of all the times that we have been in, gone through, and stayed in IP, we have never gotten a ticket. (knock on wood) We have made sure that we come to a complete stop at all stop signs (beginning in Lyndonville) and gone through IP at the speed limit. So, it takes us the extra 10 seconds to come to a complete stop and wait at all of the 2 stop signs in IP....we have seen Teddy and never been bothered by him. Maybe he is giving tickets out carelessly, maybe people are not stopping completely at a stop sign...only Teddy and that person that got pulled over knows really what went on. I can only say from our experience that we have never been bothered by him - and I have seen him pull over people out of state and people that have VT tags.

From the 2nd article, exactly my point a couple posts ago:

"Why try and destroy the reputation of a town due to your personal feelings toward one citizen?"

When the 'Town' knows about this problem, and does nothing to help it, then it is apparent that the TOWN is guilty by association.

Gil has got it right, reiterating my point.....Why should the entire town fight for your problem that you are having? You and only you can fight your own problem--jacqueline has given you the avenue you need to take. I am sure that there are many people that live within IP that don't have a problem....they too are probably sure to stop at the stop sign and waiting an extra 10 seconds at a complete stop as to not get a ticket. If everyone tried it....maybe, just maybe, there may be less tickets??

so, for the law abiding citizens that DO stop for 10 seconds and STILL get tickets.... why should they stop for 20 seconds because of a misplaced stop sign?? am i missing something here.... this isnt a freaking rare case...

I am sorry but I am a true blue life long Vermonter who knows that this constable's behavior is not typical of our small Vermont towns, nor should it be acceptable ..."Teddy" as you so fondly called him...is an over zelous pest in this community and a threat to all who visit...he has pushed many to avoid Island Pond and have put the community on the map as one of the worst places to visit in the NEK...this is not good in any way! Maybe you should spend more time actually living in the NEK and less time just visiting before you offer your opinions from CT ~ apexrtx06...

Last year I got stopped by the state Police in Lyndonville for a minor traffic infraction. The trooper was Polite, professional and Gave me a warning. The Trooper actually said he would give me a break because I was from out of state and probaly not familiar with the roads. Would Teddy do that? Lesson learned I will not make the same mistake again. I go up there alot and If I ever saw that Trooper in trouble I would do my best to help him. How many people would do that for Teddy?

When it goes this far there is something wrong. But if the town has re elected him since 83 then there is acceptance by the voters for him.

Just get used to it!!! The people of I.P. want him there. We may not know why, but the towns people obviously have there reasons for keeping him. I am not real sure that Vt. wants out of state SNOWMOBILERS. I say this because vt. does not do much to promote the sport. Pick up your snowgoer or supertrax and read about Old Forge,Tug Hill in N.Y. Pittsburg,Colebrook, or Errol in N.H. Rangely,The Forks, Jackman, The County in M.E. Do you see anything about Vt. ever??

There is a write-up in the Nov.'07 issue of American Snowmobiler and there was a nice article in Snow Goer about VAST and the great trails in VT. If you spend time in the NEK on any winter weekend, you'd see that we don't really need any added publicity. VAST representatives attend every major conference and gathering to promote Vermont and VAST. We aren't a big budget operation so where and how the budget is spent makes a huge difference.
Obviously there was enough advertisement for a heavy showing of Mass. and CT riders over the past few years. I welcome anyone who loves the sport as long as they respect the fact that they are in someone elses neighborhood and abide by the rules established by that locale.
In most towns in Vermont, STOP means STOP. It means a complete stop, not a roll through. If it's too difficult to follow the rules, then go break the law somewhere else. Teddy could be looked at as a total jackass or as being very thorough.
You should be glad he doesn't patrol by snowmobile. All he'd need is a radar gun on the Wilderness land. Wouldn't there be somw whining then. Be glad he's only in town. At least you know where he'll be.

Ahhh, but Teddy's everywhere!!!LOL. I have seen him with a whole pack of sleds rounded up at the famous bridge crossing by the lumber yard, and he was sitting in his car writing each a ticket. Actually, seen this more than once. I would've just fired my sled and bailed outta there!!
I've seen ole' Teddy chase sleds right out onto the lake!!! He'd be toast in the trails though!! rockernana.gif

I do not condone or support Teddy's "over the top" behavior,BUT................

If everyone is so "aware" of "Terrible Teddy" and his antics,why-oh-why dont people pay attention OR better yet,OBEY THE LAW !!!

I am always extremely ALERT when in (or around) Island Pond because of this very reason......I think all this could be avoided....

Think of this..........I may be way off track here, but here is a "PLAN" to get rid of Teddy....

EVERYBODY obey the law, right to the "T",and do not give him a reason to wright you up,not even a stitch of a reason....
Then after a season of Teddy not writing any tickets (or,as the town folk may see it/ creating revenue) maybe they will think he finally lost his edge,or is getting lazy or whatever, and then maybe they will think it's time for a fresh face on patrol.......

What do ya thnk ???? Will it work ????

I know its pretty far fetched, but hey, stranger things have happened............look how long he's been there.....

Good mornin nailset, What I meant by "just get used to it " was Ted and his position will not change. Either conform to the towns wishes or stay out, but complaining on this thread(and many others) does nothing.. The times that I have gone through this town I have done so on my tipi toes. HAHAHA and never had a problem. Vast and its volunteers have always done a good job,and I thank you for your time and effort. The past few years have had a decrease in TMA sales (mostly weather related) and VAST is looking to increase its membership as evident in the price restructering for this year. I guess it could be a coincidence that there is an article in the NOV. 07 issues or are they drumming up more business for this coming season. I just think that the STATE dept. of tourism could help VAST in promoting the sport instead of sitting on its arse watching VAST wiggle near bankruptcy. I appologise if my last post came off as a "knock" against VAST surely did not mean so. THANX plain-rev.

No apology necessary. I agree that the State should be pushing snowmobiling as a true tourism sport, like skiing. I'm not sure if that does happen. It could be done through VAST, already. You're right about the decrease in TMA sales and why. Just like the movie, if it snows, they will come. If I.P. residents are happy with Teddy, then we need to respect their wishes. It's their town and we are only visitors. However, if they want to survive on tourism, then they need to make sure that nothing negative happens to turn visitors away. If fuel prices climb like rumors say it will, Teddy will be cheaper than a tank of gas. It could be a very interesting season.
THINK SNOW. LOTS OF IT!!!
