Well Trash one set of D&D pipe after one season. Completely blew a pipe apart and after it's been welded once already.

D&D if you are listening. Hire an engineer who knows welding. Your material and weld process are completely wrong. There is absolutely no exuse for failures like this other than bad procedures.

It's too bad too because they "WERE" good pipes. So much for anymore business from me of my friends!

My bet is if you send them back they fix or replace at no charge.

I agree with Roadwarrior.
Would'nt hurt to try the call.
Might get New Pipes?? Possibly New And Improved set.
Sounds as though you were pretty Fond of them.
Good Luck.
teamgreen02
Call them up and see if they will work with you. Maybe they will sell you a new set of pipes for really cheap, or give you a free set. Doesn't hurt to ask.
zrnewf
That sucks joe.....let us know what happens.....if you go with a new set, try JAWS they are supposed to be awsome......

or, wanna buy a can? frech11.gif
ZRJoe
I've got a message to them. But in the mean time I'm putting my stockers back on. Sucks though. Now I have to rejet and reclutch. But we have lots of snow that needs attention!

Stepkids polaris ultra with slp pipes are all cracked and blown apart too, weld them together and blow apart somewhere else. I would think for what they charge for pipes the could make them out of something thicker than card paper. m2c.gif TomW

The sad thing is is that they are trying to carve so much weight off of pipes that they are becoming weaker.

Call D&D and talk to someone live. Explain your dissapointment and threaten to post bad reviews all over the web. Tell them you had friends interested in their pipes but after this incident there is no way they would buy one.

I'm sure that they will work with you.

Good luck buttrock.gif
caper711cc
That`s seems odd, cause the super single I ran on the 711 and the 98 500 carb
still look like new after over 5000 miles .Oh did I mention that both cat y pipes had to be welded though.Call them!If in Canada call 1-800-431-cats and ask for Doug.
Cape Breton Stocker ................Oh I did have to weld them on my zxt ....when I hit the trees.
ZRJoe
Oh I did call. For for ONLY $300 US they will replace the pipe that exploded. To tell you the truth Other that the performance I found the whole experience poor. They did not fit well, had no support other than the flange and can, (which is probably why they cracked) interfered with a number of spots on the hood, belly pan, and each other. And to boot there were NO instructions to install! (but who needs those!)

The whole problem is that there are SO many differnt models of sleds and so many shops that these guys can Jig up properly of test properly.

It's too bad.
stangmata50l
I would have torn into him so bad......that's bogus veryangry.gif

Joe.

I think that jaws are really strong pipes...both in power and in construction....

they dont have the peak hp number of the d&d, but from what I heard the midrange is amazing....they pull hard.....and best of all they are cdn made....

Sorry to hear the news. Makes me wonder now....have 1500 miles on the twins I put on my 800, no problems yet though. I agree with the fit though, one pipe is EXTREMELY close to the hood, and some of the sound deadening material actually melted during my last trip a couple weeks ago. Apparently the pipes REALLY heat up when playing around in powder. I will be putting more heat tape under the hood. The performance is super though!!!!
ZRJoe
Actually, Now that makes sense. Both times the pipe blew was when I was playing in the deep stuff.

GOOD CALL!!!

Screw it. I'm leaving the stocker on. Perhaps it's time for the Yammi RX1 EFI of DOO renegade 1000 SDI. I love my cat. But I'm getting too old to be wrenching on it after every ride!
f7madman
same happend to my friends zr900 blew the pipe apart at the weld but they replaced it but who wants to be sending shit back season is short enough
mtrsprt
Did you rejet for the pipes? Also, a guy I work with(who works at the biggest AC dealer east of the Mississippi) says they stopped installing D+D pipes on any sled, because they were casuing meltdowns. Aperently, D+D told them they needed to install a thicker base gasket with the twin pipes.

More 500-600 ZR/ZL twins with D+D pipes, are going slower than stock, unless setup properly.
ZRJoe
Of course I rejetted. I didn't say that I didn't like the performance. I said the metal and weld quality was poor!!

Read the post!
mtrsprt
I was just stating a fact for other readers who just decide to bolt on the pipes and "go".

Chill out.
blackzr8u
sorry to hear your problem.but stick with cat and find a reliable performance supplier that will talk to you and help you after the sale. i bought a machine from them that was supposed to be all done and ready, now 2 years later and much money spent i have replaced everything they put on due to failure or poor performance. guess you just have to live and learn. fortunatly we have sites like this to learn from others.CAT RULES.
