Fed-Ex is VERY fast, thats how SLP ships and not bad shipping price. DO NOT ship anything UPS. Got an some sled parts for 150 paid 60 in brokerage fees and then got taxes on the whole 210. I can't quite remember how USPS is. I can't remember anything bad like UPS so can't be too bad but i think the shipping is cheaper then Fed-Ex

Good post. I'm hearing a lot of bad things about UPS. What I'm wondering now is: Is it worth it to pay the extra shipping costs of FED-EX if you wont have to deal with the extra costs incured through USPS..or is it really just a wash?

USPS costs less big time, especially on lower $$$ amounts (like $50).

Agree with UPS statement I got hosed once that's enough. 25 bucks brokerage on a 20 dollar item.
I always request USPS shipping from US vendors and I usually won't buy if they won't ship it USPS. I must admit almost every US seller I dealt with once they understand the situation will gladly do it for you.

Just a thought, but in the long run would it be easier, cheaper, to setup a Canadian distributor for your products?

Not too much if it's shipped USPS airmail parcel post. About 6-8 business days, UPS ground is supposed to arrive in 3 days (usually more like 5 though).

I prefer USPS for small items from US to Canada. I've brought plenty of shipment via mail and have always been satisfied.
UPS is out of the question due to their extravagant Brokerage Fees and bad proximity of terminal.
I've never tried FedEx.

After being burned to the tune of $150.00 by UPS they're out of the question. Extravagant Brokerage Fees and bad proximity of terminal are two strikes against them. If knowone is home to receive shipment (we both work) then I have to go miles away to pick-up at UPS station where customer service is their lowest priority.
I've never tried FedEx but would expect similar brokerage issues.

Now what about buying a skid frame in the US. Anyone have any idea what something that heavy would cost?
I've never bought anything from down there before and I'm worried about doing it.

USPS For Sure, if you owe anything it's dirt cheap.
UPS blows chunks.. I bought something for $50 and it cost me $42 in broker fees + $10 Shipping etcc... so $102 for a 50$ Item..
The only time I benefited from UPS was when I ordered my tires off of Tire rack, all the broker fees etc are included in the price. So no bills and no surprises when they arrive. I managed to save a few hundred dollars this way.
Like everyone else on here, it's USPS or nothing. If UPS is the only option then I have shipped to a spot in NY and have it picked up from a friend.

Bought a Snare drum for like 200 dollers, UPS says 50 dollers please
Dad bought a zrt 600 engine UPS says 100 dollers please or more
a friend bought a guitar amp UPS says 150 dollers please
Now I know that UPS is a rip, I bought a 20 doller item off Russs, and USPS shipped it but canada post wanted 7.62 which sucks but thats life, UPS probably would say like 15 dollers.

Bought a cylinder once from the States. Shipped by UPS. Driver delivered, box marked up. Cost me 60 just to open and find skirt cracked off. Took picture of it with driver holding it. Contacted UPS and started claim. UPS picked up cylinder one month later. After contacting UPS again, they advised they would now deal with the seller. Insurance is for seller. Contacted seller, UPS had not contacted him. Contacted UPS again, theyv said they would deal with seller. I said, I have paid for item, and I have also paid fees to see item, why are you dealing with seller. Their policy they said. Seller no longer available by email, cant find original form from UPS. Will never deal with anybody from US who will only ship via UPS again. If it is an ebay item, I always contact seller and ask if he will ship by USPS and how much. It is sometimes more expensive on larger items, but it has a flat $5 brokerage fee and charges tax, although many times I have had items delivered with no charges.
