does anybody remember the day polaris released the xcr 600 wut wurr ur thoughts ? buttrock.gif
Rat
Awsome till the first few had crank troubles then I got one and rode the crap out of it for a year. Out of all the sleds I have ridden none of them would fly as level as that sled. On the lake it was a rocket and my 97 xc could not touch it in speed.

Only thing I would have changed about that sled was the handlebars and the throttle pull. I bought mine in 96 and it was used with 2,100 miles on it. I put on another 3,000 miles and only replaced the belt, one set of plugs and one needle and seat in the carb.

I got my eye on another one for less then 2grand. I might pick it up and throw some different bars on it and a 1 1/4 inch track with a few studs and pound the hell out of it.

I had a '95, '96, '97. The 95 would carve thru groomed trails like you wouldn't believe. :augen41: The 96 would ride a little better in ruff stuff. The '97 had the strongest motor, I used the same set of SLP pipes on all 3. I had the clutching spot on by 97 and won a few trophys with it. Even won in the 800 stock class.

I know what you mean about the bars. I have the same problem on my Ultra....they're way to short for my riding style. I ordered some bar hooks this weekend so hopefully that will help....otherwise risers and new bars will be on their way. :banghead:

POS!!! had that crank thing go bad. we were 50 miles from our cabin and had to pull it back. this happened while it was under warrenty and Poo claimed that we had modified the motor and wouldn't repalce the sled. so our dealer just repalced it with the next years model. still i think Poo is S***!!

95 xcr 600s 1 is heavily modified and we have no problems and it kicks the shit out of all thos f7 pussy cats
sabercat500
haha the key word is heavily moded and the F7 is stock and go on a trail no way could old polaris keep up with a F7 or a rev 600 you wouldnt have a chance

Honestly??? Well, I remember back in '96, I had just sold my '87 indy trail and bought a zrt600 and my buddy bought an xcr600. I remember riding the xcr and thinking.....this feels EXACTLY like my 87 trail!!....same sled except for the engine and a little more suspension! Then I got on the zrt and wow, the handling, ride, steering, and motor felt totally different and a generation ahead of the indy chassis. Then when I passed him on the lake (stock for stock), it was just the icing on the cake.

That is my memory......honestly.
Oh Canada
you should change your avatar from a 96 xcr to a 95 xcr is that is what you have.

I just love the guys who compare their HEAVILY MODDED sleds to the stock ones.
Good grief guys, get a grip!

I had a '95 and a '96 both were snowchecked. That was back in the day when you actually got something (besides a good screwing) for a pre season purchase.
The '95 was an excellant sled, I put over 4000 miles on it in one season without any trouble. I was so happy with it that I ordered a '96. The '96 lasted about a mounth. After several trips back to the dealer I was finally informed that the crank was bad and Poo was not going to replace it. This was the 4th sled in 4 years that I had bought from this dealer so he gave me his XCR600sp to replace it.
It was because of this attitude from Poo that I swithced brands to AC.

I didn't think you could snocheck th 95 xcr 600 because it was a late release, It was basically a 440 xcr with the 580 xlt mill and didn't have an adjustable torsion bar. I believe the next year(96) it could be snowchecked and it was upgraded to 38mm carbs.

had a 95 xcr, good till thinking of getting a new poo and the crank went out on o fishing trip in canada...3 miles out on lake and 1st day of trip...got a new sled and that lasted 2 short years, engine seized poo wont fix, dealer switching owners if happens again switching brands..

I snow checked a 95 XCR in spring of 94. The 94 1/2 was the early release model , that came out in Dec 93.

Ya, the 94 1/2 was a lot faster than my '95. I think that they detuned it a little. I was also a little upset when I went to pick it up and found they changed all the red stripping to bright pink.

Here's one for the archives; A good friend is just about to turn 10,000 of the hardest possible miles ever (ridden hard and put away wet every time) on his 96 600 XCR and it still keeps ticking. Now granted, we have taken apart, fixed, or replaced: both front and rear suspensions, clutches, track, shocks, reriveted the thing back together numerous times... but that motor still has 120psi in each cylinder!
We start every season with him saying "I'll get another year out of it" and somehow he does. By the way, it's mostly "stock" and it still hangs with the new 600 class in drags and smooth trails. ylsuper.gif

bought a new 1995 xcr after wrapping my 1995 vmax-4 around a tree at 80mph. ten years ago. i loved the polaris until it started blowing cranks,in two years i replaced 3 cranks at the price of 800.00 a crank.sold the sled, bought a 92 rxl,if it weren't for the rxl being such a good sled i wouldn't have dropped the cash for another. now i ended up with a 96 xcr 600, good thing i like working on these motors or fun!
shell_guy
I raced one for the past 2 season and it rips. Put SLP triple pipes on it, a set of flat slides, port the shit out of it, take 20thu off the head and run a 50/50 mix of race gas and high test. Destroid most 6,7, and 8's in 660'.

my first sled was a 96 xcr600 sp, crank went at 700ish miles. but lets
leave that out, it still censored.gif, this sled had the worse bog from
stop any 340 fan would would beat it, over 6,000 rpm's it had power,
the front end push was nothing short of dangerous, and as said before
the the handle bars censored.gif , brakes censored.gif, i cant beleive any
one would like this sled dunno.gif also as said before polaris would not
warr. crank censored.gif my buddie had a 96 zrt600 and as said before
the zrt was light years ahead of the xcr, imo flag_usa.gif
upshift67
95 was better than the 96. 97 was the best rendition. Had 'em all and piped 'em all. Fast chassis. The 97 had razor sharp turning. I just rode my buddies wifes 97 with pipes. Suspension technology has come a LONG way since then. Great chassis to make a drag sled.
