If you have the regular seat you can get Edge saddle bags on E-bay all the time. We take an overnighter at least once a year. You can get more than enough in a set of saddle bags for two nights. Pack everthing tight and take no glass. Don't take stuff that will break if it freezes. Overnight trips are great fun. Don't forget to bring extra oil and one extra carbide skeg.

My riding group has taken a few three day trips. Two of us used backpacks and you have to pack very, very, light and they still get a bit heavy. But that is the way I choose to go. The other guy used saddle bags that used rivets etc to hold them on. First trip he did not make it five miles and I ran over his bag in the trail. Second trip, he made it about 50 miles and we had to double back to find his stuff. (which turned out to be wet)
If you use saddle bags and ride on fairly bumpy trails latch those things down with everything you got.

I don't know what kind of saddle bags you guys use but the Polaris bags have a large buckle that cams over a strap to hold them on tight. I have put on over 600 miles with my bags on and they never loosend up. I would think a back pack could get pretty uncomfortable on bumpy trails.

I don't even notice my backpack when I'm riding with it. Get one with good straps, two arm straps and one that goes horizontally across your stomach. It will hold the backpack on very securely. I wear a backpack on every trip.

I wear my Dakine Helipro almost every time I ride and it is generally very comfortable. When I have had to pack it for a three day back pack trip it gets heavy.
I rode from Maple Lake Minnesota which is 40 miles west of the Twin Cities to Grand Marais Mn. We stopped two nights along the way at friends hunting shacks. No running water, no electricity and a wood stove for heat. 650 miles in three days and almost never left a groomed trail.

what you need is a trunk bag. i have put over 3000 miles on my sled with a trunk bag. you have to drill two holes in the tunnel one on each side and rivet the female clips there. then the rear straps rap around the rear bumper. i put a bungy net over the whole thing just for good measure and have never had a problem. i also recommend putting your clothes in a plastic bag before putting in your bag though, because no saddlebags are completely water proof. tank bags dont work well with our style of tanks. have fun. or you can do what a friend of mine does. no matter if its one night or four his travel pack consists of one pair of one piece long johns, one tooth brush, one big bottle of whisky and a pocket full of cash and the long johns he puts on before he leaves!!!! he sleeps alone. ha ha

personally id go windshield bag, tank bag, and backpack and back a little lighter. the pain in the butt with sable bad problems is not worth it. your just going out with guys riding all you really need is clean shocks and underwear everyday, something comfortable to where around the hotel and you tooth paste, deotorant (wow i cant spell) etc.

Clean shocks are very important.
