the father-in-law wants a good cheap sled that he can pull his ice house on and off the lake.
the ice house probably weighs 500-800lbs and has 2 rails that work as skis.
I was thinking a 500cc+ should work, any known to be torqey?
he's not brand picky, and looks arnt that important either, this will be rarely ridden other than out the ice house and back and the very rare trip around the lake
relaible, and ease of use, he's not too mech inclined.
let me know if ya'll have something that will work, or what to watch for
keep in mind 1k is about his budget, looking to buy next weekend oct 13th +/-

I would think a few studs in the track would be in order. If the track spins thru the snow pack, down to the ice, you will be stuck. (Assuming we get snow), or worse on bare ice.

Look for an older fan cooled sled like a Polaris Indy Trail or SuperSport. Those old fan cooled 440s and 488s are well known for their durability. You're gonna have to stud the track to get good traction as pulling anything of that weight will get you spinning real fast.
Why not just use the truck to pull it out there?

I have seen some older Yamaha Vikings in your price range. They were made for pulling things around and are very reliable. I would agree that studs would be a good idea.

My dads got a early 90's yamaha. Think its a 440 or 400 fan. Has elec start and reverse. Its in mint shape! Think he would take $600.00 for it. I even got some good used studs for ya.

throw up some pics and i'll show him.
this is what I use.. very reliable and easy to work on like cleaning the carb in the fall etc....250 single but geared down real low..unstoppable in deep snow with the long track it has.. it will pull a fish house.
shouldn't be very hard to locate a used one at a dealer for a fair price.

It's a 1992 Venture GT. 399cc. Hopefully this pic works. Trust me this thing is in sweet shape for its age! Everything works perfect! Kinda crappy pic. I will try to get more tomorrow. Its in the shed. That handle in front of the seat is on the lawn mower not the sled.

Hi!
I have a 89 Indy 500 that runs good. We've had it since I was a kid! Let me know if you are interested. I won't be able to take any pictures till Oct 20 since it's at the cabin but let me know...thanks!

I would buy somthing with a long track 136 would work. Also fan cooled, liquid cooling only works at higher speeds! A AC panther 440 would work well or somthing like that.
