Full Version: Rev XP chain case leak? What about maintenance of the chaincase too?
HCS Snowmobile Forums > Snowmobile Forums > Ski-Doo General Discussion > XP/XR New Style MXZ

As I've been looking into possibly getting a new Doo XP and doing some research, I saw on another site about some XP's that appear to have a leaking chaincase issue.

Well, had a chance to see a new TNT at a local shop today and as I was looking the sled over-looking for the chaincase drain bolt (which appears that there is none?) I ran my hand along the bottom of the area below the chaincase and my hand was wet with oil.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but it appears that there isn't a drain plug for the chaincase, in that you need to remove the cover to drain the oil and there is a small fill plug to add the oil.

Also, no sign of an external chain adjustment mechanism.

I haven't looked at Ski Doo sleds closely before but is this normal not to have a drain bolt on the chaincase, or an external chain adjuster?

Adjuster.

I have yet to see where the drain plug is.

After some searching, I did find that they do have an external adjuster which actually may be part of the issue with the fluid leak-the adjuster rod is on the front side of the chaincase and angles down and out.

Looks like to access the adjuter, the muffler needs to be removed.

BFD. That chain needs adjusting once or twice the first season then its forget-it. Put some teflon tape on the threads and there will be no leak. smoke.gif

I agree completely!!! I also read on another forum about the loose seat and gas tank and a guy has a fix. I guess all you have to do is put some o rings and even tie a knot in one of the o rings and it will get rid of alot of the movement. I'll bet with a few rolls of duc tape, some caulk, super glue and bungie cords you can make the XP into a very nice sled!
AkIQPilot
I'm with you JDS.

Light maybe.........but right, yet to be determined.

And if someone thinks you will only need to adjust the chain twice the first season and never again you may be in for a surprise.

PS. Newsflash, it isn't the bolt threads that are leaking. The leak is coming from the vent hole on the back side of the chaincase. Doo has a fix already. Rubber plug for the vent hole and a redesigned upper fill plug with a built in vent. You should be getting a recall notice....some of you before you even get the sled.

I am starting to believe that all '08 XP's will be "Prototypes"

And I always thought the bashers were young punks that didnt know any better............ guess they never grow out of it...............

Sorry,I never usually respon to "fishing" or a "flamers" comment, but this crap is getting SSSOOOOooooo OLD !

Its even happening on "brand specific" websites

You're a little to sensitive there VT.

That wasn't a bash, flame or fishing. JDS is just proving the point he has been making for the past 6 months. The XP may not be quite the gift that god gave to the snowmobilers like some people think.

We all keep hearing that "its been in development for 5 years" OOOK. We are now up to 10 problems with this sled and it hasn't even been riden on snow. Wait till it starts getting hammered down the trail.

I just dont understand the need to "prove a point" that cannot even be proven yet..... If you guys dont like the xp ,so be it. I bought one "hoping" I"m going to like it,but that cannot be proven yet either..... see what I'm getting at here...... you cannot prove ANY point(s) as of yet. I dont know of any of the 10 problems you speak of(other than what I have read on these types of forums),and I actually OWN a new XP.

I just dont get the whole "bashing" or "flaming" or whatever you want to call it,and it does get a little frustrating to come on to a "brand specific" board,to look for information, and or educated tips/ solutions. Just to see a bunch of un-educated,mouth spewing from people who ride "other brands" .
ANd I understand it happens both ways, there are guys on here (I'm sure) who go around to the other brand specific forums and flap their gums about the new XP,they are just as un-educated as everyone else. Every brand has their own problems (even your own dear Polaris has been putting out a few turds here and there lately)and it seems EVERYONE on these sites are aware of them. I just dont see the need for all the un-necessary comments.

I guess its just because "I" dont do it,I get sick of seeing it. God forgive me for being a little mature with a little more class than some.......

Trust me,your "points" are well taken........ you dont need people to get mad/argue with you ,just to know you were heard.......

I'll leave it at that.

Happy sledding!

Didn't you go to Arctic man akiq?? I saw xp's get worked hard with no issues. Got mine today and all I can say is that it requires patience to reassemble things you remove like the seat, side panels and clutch cover. I recomend all xp owners take time to practice taking off and putting on these items correctly and you probally wont have any problems. Also it should ne noted that the plastic cam adjuster for the secondary looks like an aftermarket needed upgrade.

Just messin with you guys a little bit. The XP is good for snowmobiling and so is the Nytro.

Even Poo and Cat are making a few decent sleds, not all that many mind you but the entire sport is moving forward....albeit at a different pace.

Sorry about that. I know it sucks when someone trys to piss on your parade when you ordered a sled that they are poking fun at. I understand where your comming from because I've taken alot of greif for buying Yamaha after owning a Rev. These shots aren't aimed at guys like you the guys who I'm aiming at know who they are.

so what? are they just supposed to say the hell with it and release it to the public as-is like polaris likes to do? and it's just seepage not a full blown leak anyway. stop being jealous and buy one.

So your XP bash ammo is a leaking vent, and a un-confirmed loose seat. Wow.

Well that would be cheaper and easier than getting a real gas tank, and skiis that dont dart, for your nytro. Honorable mention to Yams consistant history of bogus susp calibrations. Guess some yam spring and shock valving changes will be easier than ..."duc tape, caulk, super glue, and bungie cords" of which you assume the XP will need. Let see.........live with loose seat & leaky vent, or live with the terrible suspension, back yard range gas tank? Oh yeah, and an extra 60 lb nytro monkey on your back. rolleyes.gif

The only point he has proven is that he knows shit about sleds. He knows so little that his own wife made him buy the Nytro. Maybe we should be talking shop with his ole lady rather than that piss ant. akIqpilot; I wont even ackowledge your intended XP bash. whistle.png

Don't be a wuss. It's all in fun sometimes, but sometimes it can get brutal. Some people can take this serious. Just tension waiting for the snow I guess.

Come On HRL, lighten up a little.

We're just messin with ya...just barely messin with ya by the way.

Willing to bet I'll have more miles on an XP, '08 Nytro and an '08 Poo racer by years end than any of you guys will have on any one of your sleds.

Lets all just have a little fun till the snow flys, then we can pick on each other a little more.

Doo has a nice buggy in the XP and the Nytro is quite impressive as well. I'm going to be spending time on all of them.

The best way to handle HRL is to post something every now and then that will get him all worked up. Then pop some corn and open a bottle of your fav. brew and read his rant replies. There are times when he can be very amusing but unfortunately most of the time he's pretty pathetic!

Don't expect anything like that from jds, he's just a jeaslous Yama-hahahahaha owner who wishes he has what us Doo owners have. A machine that is good on gas, has a wicked suspension set up, decent wind protection, and a light machine that is fun to throw around and play in the ditches with. That's why he "trys" to put down Doo, cause his wife made him buy a Yamahahahahaha, maybe she nutkick.gif him, and made him buy the Yamahahahaha. So, now he's jealous, and scared of what he knows he don't have.

When your in your 50's and your wife controls you, bad decisions will get made.
#1; bashing doo on a doo site.
#2; Buying a nytro for tour duty.
Grab your beer jds, and sit back and enjoy the seeds your wife has sewn for you. Pansy. blahblah1.gif

Alldiapedup;
You are earged to copy and paste any Yamaha bash I made on any Yamaha site, anywhere, anytime. You wont find one. After your apology I thought that you might be a reasonable person and can see past your brand bias, but I was wrong. This is ski-doo forum, not Yamaha. We here can see the snipits against XP sleds that other brand buyers post. You dont like it when its done by Folks with real sleds who bang on Yam in the yam forum, and we dont like it here. If I was moderator, all the hit and run posts of other brand douchbags would be gone, fast. But I am not. Alas, your ignorant comebacks will not go without reply. r_c.gif
