Last night's "Bay City Times" had an article discussing the proposed speed limit for snowmobiles on the Kawkawlin River.
DNR has been monkeying around with this now for 3 years. Looks like another year before it may be passed. The DNR
keeps making mistakes with the paperwork and posting public meetings on the matter.

What is the reason for the speed limit? Is it safety? When was there any sled accidents that hurt bystanders? I have been in bay city for over 10 years and I don't recall any accidents? Maybe we should limit all road traffic to 25 mph cause some property owners kid may get hurt!

yes, saftey. a few accidents every year and one death on the river. all roads on both sides of the river have 25 mph speed limits. in bangor township subdivisions line both sides of the river.

The death was on the saginaw- and it was linked to alcohol. Unless you are referring to a different one. I have never seen or heard of a accident involving a sledder vs non-sledder, not saying there isn't any- just don't think it is rampant and warrants another questionable law. I have seen 2 sleds close, but I thought the property owners were worried about their kids getting hit and fishermen too.

it was a while ago... a guy got decapitated in 1987....4 wheeler vs. snowmobile. nothing on record an sleds v. non sledders, but many near misses. there is very little pedistrian traffic on the river currently

45 mph but it is only on a small section of the river, that was another dnr boo boo by only including a certain section of the river.

I think this was a pickup truck and the snowmobile rider thought the two headlights were snowmobiles. The operator of the snowmobile thought he would be a smart a$$ and split the two lights. He ran smack into the middle of the pickup killing him instantly. This was in the Bay.

The other incident was a couple years ago at the mouth of the Kawkawlin River where the ice gets thin. This was around 2 am and alcohol was involved. I think he was decapitated from hitting the ice on the other side as the sled was going down.

How many people have died on the Bay in the last 20 years? It seems like someone looses a life every year on the Bay. I think they are mostly fisherman. But yet the snowmobiles are the problem. blahblah1.gif

Just a REMINDER, tonights the night to VOICE ur opinion on this issue! furious2.gif furious2.gif
These "jackholes" (DNR) cany even manage their budget let alone this baby problem! passifier.gif
Its not about the accidents, its mostly about the drag-racing in front of Castaways and NOT keeping ur safe distance away from ice fisherman & people. I talked to the VP of the Kawkawlin water sled assc, and he said this is just another informal public hearing to document statements & opinions on how to resolve this issue. The rumors if u heard about shutting down the Kakwkawlin river are a joke! Might as well close the Sag. Bay, Sag. River while their at it! frech11.gif The homeowners that live on the kawkaw wont even go for that!
SHOW UP AND VOICE UR OPINION!!!!
