Called on Cust's in the thumb yesterday, checked out the new windmills for the first time. The things are huge, and can't believe that they have put up 32 of them since mid June. Concrete bases measure 32'x32'x32', Blades measure 120' long , 320' tall . 3.2 million each. Project funded by the John Deere Co. Worth the drive, very impressive!! Mike

Where at, exactly? I love windmills and the whole concept of free energy for the state. Waterwheels, too. Untouched unexhaustable resources. I want a 'mill on top of my house... think there's any ordinances against it?

Speaking of Deere, just saw a guy in my 'hood with a Harley painted Deere green n yellow.. odd looking, but kinda cool.

They are located between Pigeon and Elkton, about 1 mile north of M-142, don't worry, you WILL see all 32 of them. They are BIG.

Yikes, that's a bit of a hike... but maybe one day when we have nothing better to do... hit caseville for lunch or something.

Not sure, I went south off Kinde rd. (where the tile place is, I think that that is Pinnebog??) to Brian rd. You can see them way before ya get to Brian Rd. though.

I live in Sebewaing and you can see them from here. Very cool. There was a news articale in the Newsweekly about more that might go up.

I saw the blades for some of them on the train tracks when we went up to Caseville for the cheeseburger in paradice festival, those things are huge.

These aren't exactly pretty, but I'm going to put one up at my house I'm building to see if they work at all here in Michigan. http://www.skystreamenergy.com/skystream/

It appears these Windmills are here to stay and more to come, A company(that makes castings and parts) just bought a closed down foundry here in Alpena, they say their will be a 10.5 million dollar upgrade to the plant and the parts are specific for Windmills. This is a big boost of confidence for us here in Alpena, 100 to 150 jobs coming back. flag_usa.gif beer4.gif

I live 2 miles east of the windmills and yes they are HUGE!!!
They were bring the towers by truck right by my house all summer. When I was home there would be 4 or 5 of them go by in a couple hours. I have pics. if I can find them. From the tip of the blade to the ground it is almost 400'.
It is a awesome site for this little town. They will not be turning till next spring or summer. But they are something to see.

I don't think it is free energy for you, the consumer. I believe there is a surcharge to the consumers who use the windmill electricity above and beyond what the normal usage charge is. At least that was the plan last year from Detroit Ed.

I was awestruck to see the windmills in Wyoming near Cheyenne. Windmills as far as the eye could see. When I saw the two at the bridge I wondered why it took so long and why there werent more here in Michigan.

The tree huggers complain about them in California because "tweety" gets whacked by the blades, and apparently they are noisy. (Rather listen to that vs. boomboxes. And if it takes out the pigeons I see it as a win win.)

Wonder how ugly it gets if a tornado goes through a wind farm?

I wonder if the windmills would be shut down, and blades locked in a bad storm???
