Ok, this startet last friday night...Hubby tore apart the bathroom thinking it came from there,, nothing.. I send my Son UNDER the house,,, he saw nothing laying arround..
this smell is bad enough where it woke me up 3 times last night.
I dont know who to call, or how to go about this.
Any help? It could be in the attik part, or walls, or in between the insulation and floor boards. I have NO idea what it could be either... all I know is the SMELL is awfulll,,,,, and its not getting better !

Make sure there isn't some rotten food somewhere. You never know kids these days. A hamburger pattie fell behind/under our refridgerator one time. It was pretty green when we found it.

Save it for the St Pattys Day bbq... go with green beer.

If it's something big, it aint in the walls. Recheck under the entire house. Look behind/under furniture for a mouse? We had that one many years ago, was nasty. If you have a fireplace, check on top of the flue.
:bc: good luck, could be anywhere

Most overlooked part of the house with this problem is the stink pipe. Make sure its clean and free of leaves and other debris or animals. If thats blocked all that stink will enter your house instead of outside where its supposed to go.

Don't dismiss this as not a mouse...We had a dead mouse in our Paradise house and it smelled for weeks. Could not figure out where it was or what it was. Thought it was in the walls somehow. Turns out, it was a dead mouse in a chest of drawers in between towels. I would guess the smell lingered much longer since the mouse was enclosed in towels and the air was unable to dry it out quickly. In other words, depending on the location of the dead mouse, it may be well preserved and well preserving it's smell....I couldn't believ a mouse could make that bad of smell, for that long either....

Be sure and let us know what you find. A dog will do a good job finding whatever it is if you or your friends/neighbors have one.
You said your house is over a crawlspace. Any chance you checked on top of the foundation that supports the floorjoists?
When you do locate the stink, bleach the area to kill the bacteria. Air freshener will just temporarily mask the odor.
good luck!

OK tomorrow open up all teh windows, and put fans in and get some great cross ventilation going. Air that sucker right out. Then close up teh windows and head from room to room to see where teh smell comes back first. That will get you close.
Do you have heating ducts? Might check there.

Have you checked the vent pipe on top of the hot water heater ? This happened to me earlier this year, what a godawful smell. It ended up being squirrel that somehow got into the pipe and died.

Do you use bolth of the bathrooms all the time? I have also seen where people have a second bathroom that they hardly ever use and the water will dry up in the p-trap under the tub which lets all the sewer smell blow right through the drain?

I once had a possum decide to nest under my house when I lived in a trailer park. It took me about 2 weeks to find where the stench was coming from. It turns out the odor was the rotting flesh of mice, birds and whatever else it drug home. A .22 caliber pellet gun took care of the possum. I had to remove the nest, bleach the area, and sprayed it with Lysol everyday for a week. Took an extra week to get the house aired out. I thought my wife had bought stock in Yankee Candle during that time. I ended up adding chicken wire around the inside of the skirting to keep the larger pests out.

ok, been dwelling on this awhile. Is your furnace located near the stink? Is it possible something fell down the chimney/flue and is laying in the "cleanout T", (assuming there is a cleanout "T" in the vent pipe). And if no "T", could it have actually made it's way to the vent diffuser on the furnace????
SnowdemonsRX1
Sep 28 2007, 02:00 PM
nop,, nowhere near the sink

Nor is the smell anywhere near the Furnace.
Seems to be better today or maybe I am used to it
