OnThinIce
Hi Snowman,
I'm not too sure about 'play' areas in Orillia (there must be some though), but I do know of some good ones in Oro/Medonte and there's a gravel pit the boys like to play in over near Midland.
I know there are lots of peeps in this forum that ride Orillia and they will probably be able to help you locate a play spot.

We ride out of Coldwater and around Orillia (when Couch is frozen), you are welcome to ride with us smile.png
Or if you think 70-90km/h is too slow then the guys go on their 'insane' runs too wacko.gif

I'm one of those jerks you'll meet on the trails doing 150+ km/h and you give the finger to. It actually happens all the time, and im also that jerk given the chance will pass you on the trail if i find a good spot. grinning-smiley-023.gif

At least you admit it, I might fall into the same category......fast but safe? Do they go together?

I try to ride fast and safe. I stick to my own side majority of the time. I'm not always first in the group so If i can see the guy infront, i usually get the heads on upcoming traffic. The only dumb part is the guy in front will get the speeding ticket while the others in back might not. Last season my dad got one and its 120 bucks flat rate but we all chiped in 20 bucks since we all were speeding and he only got caught for being the leader.

I'm just the kind of guy who can't stand riding slow. The big thing that makes me mad is when people do the speed limit in cochraine with the smooth wide flat trails that seem to go straight forever. Only reason i go up there is to ride hard and fast and put on 400 miles a day if possible. I just dont feel comfortable riding up someones butt.

Okay, you guys ALL get to ride in front on our HCS ride hear_no_evil.gif

i ride out of orillia. now for pits and some fun places to ride your quite limited. there are some nice crown land powerlines that can be ridden. also if your willing to sled up to gravenhurst bracebridge there are some pits there that alot of people use. OneThinIce mentioned a pit around the midland way its pretty fun too.

You are way too agreeable Kevy hug.gif

Unfortunately, I had a huge 'debate' with a lad on here awhile back about this very topic.
My side was "if I'm going 60km/h then what's your freakin' rush?"
But, back then, I had a sled that beat the crap outta me and it was a miracle I made it home in one peice.

Now, umm... whistle.png
With my Legend... I find myself flipping out on the very same sledder going 60km/h because if I can do 80/90+km/h then so can everyone else!! furious2.gif

Is that hypocritical? rolleyes.gif
Guy...
i know one..

Haha it is! I think you need to get off that doo and onto a real sled wink.gif haha jk jk. Though I don't agree with a 50km/h speed limit myself but i will continue to speed on the trails becasuse i don't find it fun riding at 50kph. These sleds were made to go quicker than that. 50 km/h was fine 20 years ago when the sleds went that fast but not anymore. I am going to continue to ride 100 + km/h as it stands, and yes i've had a speeding ticket :P

I think this is the Pit OTI was talking about.
It has a few large rocks in it so watch for lumps in the snow if you go there.
The trail goes right through it. The trail is the purple/pinkish track.
I don't know the trail number but I'm sure some here knows.

Actually, 05/06 season I got to ride an '03 Polaris Edge X 800 (with the M10 suspension) a few times and it was very comfy thumbsup.png - a 'huge' step up from my '99 FIII with the SC-10 CK3 suspension.
But, compared to my Legend wub.gif ....it's a lumber wagon.
Of course, Brat has an '03 Legend Sport 700 with the same SC_10 III suspension and I find mine is more comfy.

I can't disagree with that anymore trau14.gif
But, there has to be a happy medium where newbies, families, older sled riders, etc., can ride without fear of being run down/over or passed.
I've always had mirrors and it's very frustrating pulling over every few minutes for faster riders.
Especially if I'm doing the posted speed limit.
I don't know what to say friend.
While I try to be considerate, I'm still just as guilty as you hmm.png

But... it's FUN going fast!!! hyper.gif

Yep, that's the spot! yes.gif
On the way to Midland we'll stop for an hour so the boys can play, but I'm strictly a spectator.
Those guys are NUTS!! ooh4.gif nuts.gif
Sometimes just the boys'll head out either over to the Pits or Treasure Island (or both) and they'll spend hours over there playing.
FreezerBurnt
but is it legal

most pits are owned and regulated

Kev144 we should ride together man, i ride hard and fast. There's a couple really nice spots my way (i live 5 mins from wasaga beach) where me and buds always go and play around for awhile.

Hi FB,
As far as I know it is.
The trail goes right through there in the winter and there's no vehicle use (that I've ever seen).

Were is Treasure Island? Sounds interesting.

Hi fraz,

I believe 'onthinice is refering to treasure bay which is on Georgian Bay at Beausolei Island near Honey harbour. This video was made by one of our forum members 'MxZbLiZz'. As the season progresses into march the hole gets much bigger and draws quite the crowd and is a great place for a cook out (I counted 130 sleds last year) the depth in the puddle is about 6 ft deep at the most. Its funny to watch some of the daredevils slither across and then sink and beg someone else to fich her out. Spare ropes are a must.

How do the lakes freeze up in that area? And how much snow you guys get? I usually ride from Kearney and surrounding area and up to cochrane every year.

Oops ,
Yep, You're right Yukon; I was thinking Beausoleil Island & Treasure Bay at the same time

Thanks!
I'll have to try to get over there for a look this season.
Rode out of Wasaga a few times last season and am just starting to find the good spots to play.
Maybe we can all hook for a day and doo the pit and then stop by the water hole for a lunch break.

I'll have to wait and see about that Sun.
I'm trying to get the Mrs. to go on the Prostate ride with me.
She is not a rider and being the smart lady that she is will not get on a sled with me unless I guaranty it'll be easy trail riding and flat boondockin with no hills.

Hey fraz,

Just to make you aware we'll be having 2 different runs for different riders for the ride. A short loop for a slow pace and faster longer loop for the more Hardcore sledder thumbsup.png . Of course saftey is our number 1 goal and is a family event. The trails are never a guarantee on a saturday afternoon but I can assure you that the local clubs involved do a great job preparing for our group ride, this is why we start the ride early.

Glad to here your thinking about coming out, and if you have any questions give me a pm.
Yukon

P.s I'd also be up for a ride on the 17th.
