Wallmart has just finished expanding in town and offer grocerys with there other bargins.Prices are alot cheaper than the local zehrs store were my daughter works part time.It has had a monopily being the only store in town for sometime now.Long lineups and high prices might be a thing of the past for them as they had only three cashers the other night.Wifey works for sears and they have been up and down for sometime now.I work for a company that supplies compactors to loblaws and there other stores and have a decline in sales for the last three years. It seams like they have effected my life in a big way.Home depot is another one that has knocked out every mom and pop hardware store in most small towns.

I prefer to shop elswhere, I will admit I have shopped there but I would rather pay a little more and buy from a home style type store.

I lived in bolton almost all my life and can't believe how things have changed over the years. I just moved away 5 years ago. It was just a matter of time before the big box stores moved in. It really hasn't affected me personally but i'm sure it has affected alot of people especially the small store owners. It's too bad,but if people support these stores they will just keep building in these small towns.

We have the theory here, as soon as a big box supports us, we will suport them, To date, Zero! We might pay more to buy locall, but we live locall, Enough said!

Port Perry is going to get one right shortly and my ass will never be in it. The residents have fought tooth and nail against it and I argue with my retired dad all the time about what that shit hole empire does. I am no great union backer or buy domestic champion but I do hate the flood of Chinese shit they bring to our market. We all have a choice about what we buy and who we buy it from, I choose to stay away. The only thing I will say that the Walmart in Port Perry might help is that maybe the Retard that runs the Port Perry Canadian Tire might pull up his socks.

Can't stand the place.....to me it's a clearing house for boatloads of sub-standard shit from China.

My #1 reason I won't go in that place is because it cuts deep into me to see those poor ol bastards dressed up in a smock at the front door greeting you as you come in. Nothing at all personal against them, as I have the utmost deepest respect for our senior citizens and their generation. They're the real people..the heart and soul, and the builders of this once fine institution called Canada.(still pretty fine, just in need of a serious tune-up) Just pisses me off that they're not retired and doing what they want to be doing instead of doing what they have to in order to get by.
Ironic, that perhaps some of those people may have worked their ass off most of their life to get ahead only to be victim themselves to this change we have seen.
Bottom line---------ask yourself next time you see one of these people, is it possible you are looking at your own future? Scares the shit out of me!

On a positive note: I personally have seen a change in attitude. Seems more and more, people are starting to see and respect the difference in quality of a product. I buy local as much as I possibly can even if it means spending a little more and I always encourage others to do the same. If I can’t afford to buy the real deal, I’ll wait until I can instead of buying a knock off.
Remember the old saying, “What goes around, comes around”. I think change is coming back around.

couldn't tell you what the inside of one of their stores looks like. I can also say with a great amount of confidence that I will never step foot in one. EVER!

I DONT MIND THE PLACE WHEN I GO IN FOR SOMETHING OR TOO. I ALWAYS END UP BUYING MORE THAN I PLANNED ESPECIALLY DVDS BUT I DONT KNOW WHY THEY HAVE AN ARMY OF CASH REGISTERRS AND ONLY ONE LADY MANNING THEM. ITS LIKE GOING TO A GOVERMENT OFFICE WHEN YOU WAIT IN LINE FOR AN HOUR!!!

Wallmart suck's, can't stand shopping in the place. Might step in there once or twice a year but only to buy brand name stuff cheaper. Most of their stuff is complete crap IMO.

My wife brings home junk from wally world all the time including this 6 month old computer desk that the drawer fell apart on this morning wall.gif .She gave away the nice (and big) 300.00 desk that we've had for two years....she wanted to lossen up some space in our office(home)

I rather enjoy it, but not as much as my wife. Hell, it's helped the local stores get with the times and be competitive with their prices. I also buy locally, but sometimes the local hardware store doesn't have what I'm looking for, so Sprawlmart is the choice.

As for the seniors working the front door, the Sprawlmart in Pembroke has a couple of them, and having taken the opportunity to chat with some of them, have realized that for some, it's an opportunity for them to remain active in the community. One old fella (Elmer) says that if he stayed at home, he'd probably die from boredom, so, he'd prefer to be interactive at the store.
