Thinking of putting a SLP engine base plate on my seld, it's a 2003 xc 800 edge. Anybody think they do any good? Where's the best place to buy one? Thanks!

Engine Base Plate
pockets
Ran them on all the twin piped 7/800's I did.

That's about all the proof I need, since Pockets seems to be the master of these sleds! Thanks!
Anybody buy them anywhere but SLP? Probably all about the same price I suppose.

Search on snowest, swap meet, engine section, keyword "plate" or "torque" there's a machine shop out in MT that a guy makes them for around $55, I think his screen name is "machinethis" on SW.... I just got one shipped for around $61, looks just like the one I have on a 700 twin, the new one is going on an 800. They have a website as well, can't remember the name right now though.

It's about half the ching of a SLP plate.

There's another guy on SW too that makes them but his are around $150. His name is 1200psi.

You're talking about Brad, he's kinda known for his engine mounting plates. We're talking about the engine "torque plates" they bolt onto the bottom of the engine case between the motor and the engine mounting straps (or engine mounting plate) The torque plate is said to help keep the crank case from twisting under load. Although, after using two of Brads engine plates, I'm sure they serve as a dual role for mounting and kind of a torque plate seeing as new Pol sleds motors are mounted with 2 straps, Brads plates are a one piece deal with 6 different holes for motor mounts.

So at what point should you look at a motor plate? Is there a lot of twist in the bigblocks?

Watch how much the motor moves with the stock straps and no torque arm versus a one piece plate with a torque arm. You'd be amazed at the difference. my .02

The plate works great. It's kept my 800 twin together so far. When installing just keep and eye out to see if it fits on the bottom of the case nicely. Mine needed a little grinding in one area cause the case had a little bump in it that would not have allowed it to sit flat.

I run one on my 03 RMK with a 925 PSI no problems plate fit nice looks good

If you know someone who can TIG weld…….made my own out of 3/8 aluminum plate and welded it in between the stock straps. Comes out to a square piece about 5 x 5 if I remember correctly. Good thing about doing it this way is the motor sits in the chassis at the stock height ….a typical bolt on aftermarket plate raises the motor a little. Bad thing about doing it this way, you need the motor out on the bench upside down, and you have to be sure no twist after cooling. I had minor cleanup to get the strap/plate welded assembly to sit flush at all four points on the case after welding. Two hard years and no problems, couldn't help but notice how much cooler my clutches were.
Replace your mounts while you're there, use stock factory mounts

Wow, thanks for all the great input on this! I will be searching around a bit, especially if I can get one for half price I can use the money towards other goodies!
