Always thought the racer seat looked cool. Was alot more work than anticipated but its done. For this year it has a fresh 1998 xcr 440 suspension on both ends, new .75 track, new driveshaft/jackshaft bearings and chaincase seals, cleaned up the pipes, MBRP silencer and soon some new carb slides and a shitload of studs. Probably useless in the snow but should be a hoot on the river.

Still have to drill the hole in the tank for the big fuel line grommet. Forgot to measure the hole in the stock seat/tank before I sold it. Anybody know?

i would love to see that set up in the 98 440
royboy64
say how are thoes 98 xcr's anyways
now i'm thinking about doing just that lol
are they any good for ice racing?
how hard is it to put a xcr in that thing?
always liked that sled
royboy64
could a guy just use 96 ultra straps and htg pipes?

Now you need the air box mods with 2 foam rings and at least 1 SLP Flowrite, take the restrictions off and let it breath.

Very nice. Not sure on grommet hole size. But, I have to do the same on the 94 Storm w/800 XCR TURBOCHARGED setup I'm building.

Hopefully, you used the 4-driver driveshaft and HYVO drivechain/sprockets from the 800.
Clutch it to run at 81-8200 at WOT for max power with stock pipes. Definitely use V-Force reeds.
400 mains for most use down to plus 20 degrees. I have a spare set of new 2.0 slides if you need them. Black anodized aluminum from Cat.

Thanks Don, Phil for the tips..yes interested in the carb slides. I get paranoid every time I start the thing.

I have everything but the foam to do the airbox vent job, forgot to mention it. Yep running the 4 row drivers and the stock 800 gears, chaincase. I did something last year with the weights. Cant remember if I went up 3 grams or down but I nailed the rpm level. At wfo she peaks at like 8100-8200 r's. I think I dropped the weights from 65's to 64.

For those asking about the 98 440, there isnt much difference in the chassis from the rest of the xc lineup from 98 to 2000. The suspension components vary but the tunnel, bulkhead, cooling, brakes, skid and shock mounting and such are identical. Same front end, trailing arms, etc. My 98 440 now has a 700 twin from a 2000 GEN 2 that litterally bolted right in. Putting the xcr 440 suspension in the XCR 8 is simply the easy way of converting the 440 xcr to a big tripple. IE if I was able to put a 98 xcr 440 belly pan and hood on this thing it would then be identical. A much easier job than trying to get the tripple into that 440 chassis and I think the gen 2 belly pan and hood give a little more clearance than the wedge. I stuck an older 650 tripple into a 98 440 last year and even that was tight fit.

The later crc/xc xtra 10 platform is a decent sled even by todays standards if you enjoy riding the flatland. Parts are plentifull and fairly cheap and interchange with quite a few other sleds. Its all I ride and I have no desire for a newer sled at least until we get longer winters with more snow. An experienced pilot on well set up extra 10 will be hard to catch on the river, flat groomed trails and in the tight twistys.

love the pipes rich!!!! and you put in some 10-62's in the primary to get your rpms down to were they need be. with the higher gearing and some traction you might get that nasty srx this winter!!! you are already 10x more trail sled, just need to get dialed in for the river running.

As I told you on the telephone Rich, NO standard ported, stock piped, srx has ever beaten my stock ported/piped 800 XCR in lake racing. And we have quite a few of them around my area. Even one that supposedly dynoed at 160 hp.

As MADCOW says, the stock stuff runs very well when properly setup.
