Full Version: XP Problems?

I have read recently that there were a couple of small complaints while testing the 08 REV-XP.

*The first complaint was that the skis drift while hammering down through a whoop section. Is this an effect of skis that are not aggresive enough, or the shocks not working effectively. Is there a better ski or shock out there for the purpose of the XP?

*The second complaint was that the inside skis would lift in a corner as if the sway bar was too tight. In years past I took the sway bars out on my Polaris sleds, what is the opinion on the Ski Doo sleds?

*The third complaint was the power tek engine is a vibrator! I understand the isovibe helps out alot in the bars, does this add any height to your bars (which was also a complaint) because I am 6'1" and any height increase is appreciated!

WHAT IS THE GENERAL OPINION OF THESE ITEMS FROM ALL OF YOU THAT KNOW?

this is nothing new with the rev

and nothing that cant be solved with a pair of aftermarket ski's
and some isovibes on the bars
and some body english

I rode the demo for almost an hour, was very comfortable to me, the height and positioning was perfect, i'm 6' 3" and I was comfortable on it, as far as the ski lift, not sure, never had them on the ground, except when I started and stopped, machine is fun, I think you're looking too far into things!!!

Alot of the sleds ridden ealry are prototypes, not really a production sled quite yet.Alot of the prototypes were delivered with the rear skid set up soft and the limiter straps were let out, hence the problems with the stutter bumps and ski lift. That will all change on the production models. As for the vibrations it is not the motor to blame, but one must remember that the engine is now part of the frame solid mountated so there is no movement of the engine in the chassis under hard throttle loads, nothing that can't be addressed by the engineers with a hard bushing at the engine mount points to reduce the vibration.

These were prototypes and also the opinion of a test rider. Do yourself a favour and get another magazine with a different opinion, that's what i did as i read the same article as you. If you read everything in that magazine, they really didn't like any of the sleds for 2008 . I was down at the dealer on the weekend and one was running and i found it smoother then the old 800 IMO. I'll be picking mine up in about 2 weeks. I get a new sled about every 3 years and if i listened to magazine BS, i would never buy a new one. They also have got rid of the outside carbide on the pilot skis. Who knows, they have made a number of changes from prototype to production. No worries. Just ride it.

I'm sure it is going to be a sweeet ride, but I'm all for finding the best aftermarket products to improve it. Aftermarket skis and the isovibe seem like almost certain improvements. I say go for it!

I rode to the demo ride on a 500SS and then got onto the XP 800R Prototype ... I did not notice any vibration to speak of.

I think many just look for something to complain about(not you the mags)or are just nit picking!Personally I just read the mags for entertainment and really don't use there sled ratings on my buying experience just because of my experiences over the years,I find many mags especially supertrax (which is one of my favorite mags)contradicts its self often, last season in the no bull buyers guide they said the mach was heavy but they didn't mention the weight of the apex even though the posted weight of the apex was much higher.I buy sleds based based off my experiences and knowledge and most of the time I just go to the dealerships look over the sleds, look over the specs feel out the sales staff to see if they even want my business and base my desicion off that ,I don't think in this day and age you can really go wrong,

The vibration is there. Much more than any sled i've ridden lately. lots of power and very light. You can't deny the vibration, I wonder if parts will start breaking as a result of it. The ride was harsh but i think that is a matter of shocks and springs on pre preduction and production models
