I have a 2002 mxzx 600 and I ride out of Jackman ME. The trails are fairly straight and wide . I get different opinions on gearing changes, some say to gear up and some say to gear down. Stock gear is 24 tooth. Some say go to a 23 tooth and others say go to a 25 or 26 tooth gear.

What are the different effects gearing changes have ?

Thanks

A geared-down sled makes the trails a whole lot funner, IMO. You can just blast out of a corner. I'll take low-end over top-end any day.

I agree every sled I've owned has been geared down one sometimes two gear sizes.

OK take a 26 tooth top and a 40 tooth bottom and you will have killer top end speed but almost have to push the sled to get it going. put a 23 tooth top and a 44 tooth bottom and you will have insane pull on the bottom end. I ran a 26/40 one day on a ride down the river and ended up getting radared by the DNR at 126 mph he did not believe his radar so I got off with a warning. next week I ran the 23/44 and could not get over 105 mph. Also when gearing you must change some things in the clutches to make it work the way it should. m2c.gif
