Years ago there was an article in a dirt bike mag, Earth First had circulated a newsletter that showed various ways to stop them, including a device hooked up to a shot gun shell & running a rope across the trail. These people are f'd in the head.

It sickens me that people would stoop so low as to injure and even kill someone just because they think we are hurting the environment or because they don't like us riding someone. Didn't the article state they think it was towards quads because they ride them down the bed when they shouldn't be. If that's the case, call the cops. Do the right thing instead or seriously injuring someone or worse, killing them.

This happened in Rindge and Mason NH a few years ago. A guy was riding a ZR on the Rindge RR bed when he was either decapitaited or suffered severe fatal head trama induced by a tree that was cut and deliberately placed at head height on the trail. In Mason some newcomer from Mass (sorry guys) bought a house and didn't realize the RR bed in his back yard was used by sleds in the winter and wasn't happy about it. He took a telephone pole and placed it halfway across the trail to act like a fence and than on the open side he put aircraft cable to work as a "tripline" but it was neck height. My brother and I tore it down and had a few words with the guy, as well as calling f&g and the police.

So if they were to catch these scumbags what would the sentence be, jail time, community service, a slap on the wrist. From the picture in the article I would say they should be brought up on assault charges at the very least, maybe even attempted murder. Those spikes weren’t going anywhere.

I have been on tracks a couple times in the winter and they tend to grab the skis. I have noticed where I have ridden they tend to be thin in the snow department.

I have personally seen quite a few trees, ropes, chains and cables streched across a trail because someone within the area did not like the sounds of the dirtbikes we rode as kids in Mass. We always had land owner permission to ride so we were not breaking any laws. I will agree that a dozen kids on dirtbikes probably makes a lot of noise but putting something across or on the trail is sick. FYI We never were able to prove who did this but we had a good idea.

the rindge incident was actually a bunch of teeangers that got bored and decided to cut down a tree, but didnt think about the fact it landed in the trail, a good friend of mine rode by the spot about 45 mins before the man on the zr lost his head, scary stuff.

Yeah people that do this should get jail time, the father of a kid i went to college with died because people put a tree across a trail..... Even if some punks think it is a big joke i say they should be locked up for life. One stupid stunt like that doesn't just hurt the person that is injured or killed and their family, but it hurts the whole community that they are from. Snowmobiling can be a dangerous enough sport without these idiots booby trapping our trail systems.

Holy shit that is scary.
My dad totaled his sled on a RR bed up at twin mtn, a spike grabed his ski, stopped the sled dead in its track, bent the A-arms and the whole chasis on his 04 rev.

Let me guess...precision skis on that sled? The outside carbide on the ski likes to grab the buckles that connect two sections of rail in line. I know from experience myself. After the second time, I ditched those shitty skis and I haven't had a similar incident since. I stay away from railroad tracks at all costs but sometimes you can't avoid a short stretch.
