Wisconsin DNR & Michigan DNR must be reading from the same handbook...Our DNR claims that there are no Cougars in Michigan...B/S...I've seen 1 myself W/out a doubt what I saw at 30ft away.
SOB was 6 1/2' long near Roscommon Mi. We've had lots of sightings here in Cheboygan as well...
Guess you gotta shoot 1 and drop it on their desk to prove they are here...but then they would ticket you for not having a permit to kill it LOL

Had a similar experience with the wardens in maine. Came accross a wolf broadside in the trail while hunting for sheds in north western Maine while sledding this year. No mistaking it for a coyote when it was 100+ lbs, 4 ft plus at the back, and probably over 5ft long . They told me it was a coyote that I must have seen. Sorry been around the woods to long and seen to many coyotes. This scared me it was so big.

Had one walk in front of me in Garden michigan hunting opening morning also. I saw it and no one belived me, I know what I saw it was a cougar.
Ya tha is def a couger. The one I seen was walking and it had snowed the night before, just a dusting or so. that thing waas walking and could walk as fast as I could srpint. (I run fast too) After i was done hunting I got down and looked at his prints. the snow was melting fast so I couldn't show anyone. Michigan is the same way the DNR says they dont exist, I think I should shoot one and set in on their desk. After seeing that I went and got a CCW and carry a gun when I hunt now.

sighting here in Ontario are picking up as well and MNR says it's not possible....black cougar spotted locally (never new a blck cougar existed) and a few other sightings???? buddy of mine is a C.O. (game warden ) says sightings are likely real but could be animals that have been held in captivity that escaped....that pics looks awfully big to be a cougar, look at the front shoulder area more like a lion

I'm in central iowa and we had several sightings around our area too. Same story from the DNR, they aren't around here. Well, a trail camera caught one perfectly and the DNR finally admitted it was a real pic and that they could be here. We don't need a special license around here for one, just the normal hunting license and habitat stamp like pheasants or coyotes. That will probably change now.

I saw a very large cougar in Bemidji Mn area about 10 years ago. My son thought I lost my marbles... until he saw it 45 minutes later. Rather than guess how long it was, and no one believe me, just picture this, both of the front legs were on one side of the railroad tracks and both of the back ones were on the other side. When the back legs were across the rails, the tail was longer than the width of the rails. I never worried much before about going to my deer stand in the dark, now I keep looking around me with a loaded rifle.

There have been a handful of Cougar sightings in the southern Rusk/northern Chippewa county area over the last year or so. Population is relatively sparse, but yet there are enough folks around to catch one crossing a road here and there. I haven't seen one myself, but my folks have, as have a few others I know. They've been sightings in broad daylight too, not fuzzy pictures from a trailcam or a sighting in the headlights from 300 yards away. Everyone who has seen one has said there was no question about what they were looking at.

Same deal in Massachusetts. About 10 years ago when I was 6 I saw my friends dog get in a fight with one. My friend was with me and we both saw the thing tower over his german shepherd. Of course nobody believed me until a couple years later when a couple more were spotted in the area. Now there are local sightings at least a couple times a year.

Was watching this post for a while biting my tongue, glad others also see the skinny assed hound I saw at first glance.
Cougars are around the countryside but are extremely rare and mysterious outside of there home range, hence the optimistic interest!

the reason the DNR will not acknowledge them is because they would have to start managing them and possiably open a season. We all know what that means more MONEY!!!

I relative of a coworker of mine (the story has to be true when it starts like that LOL) told the dnr he saw one and was laughed at, after seing it enough that he could pattern it he talked (anoyed) the local dnr officer into going back there to look for tracks and they found a den with live cubs and it was never publicly aknowledged, because as he put it, The dnrs offical stance on them is that because of the extreme distances and large home range they may wander into MN from Canada but there is not an active breeding population. But basicaly off the record he told them they have ben around off and on for years

I'm in Rice Lake and there's been at least 1 sighting of a black cougar/panther looking cat north of town. That was last summer (or the one before maybe), and 3 different people saw it at the same time....coming out of the woods I hunt too

. A relative of mine has a deer farm right across the road from where that sighting was. They've had many dead deer that were obviously attacked by a big cat, looked up photos of cougar deer kills on the internet and they match perfectly. They even made moldings of paw prints found in the dirt. The disturbing part is there have been a lot just killed without being eaten at all.
When they brought the photos and paw print mold to the DNR they just continue to say no cougars exist in the area. I guess you can't go to jail for shooting something that doesn't exist? I'm assuming they deny it so the government doesn't have to compensate people for livestock kills like they do for wolves?
Some friends of my brother were camping somewhere in southern MN along the mississippi river in the bluff country. Just before dark most of the group decided to go for a short hike, but my brothers friends wife was tired (she was pregant) and decided to take a nap at the camp. She was sleeping face down on a blanket on the ground, not in a tent. She woke up to a cougar sniffing the back of her neck. She layed there frozen for a while before the rest of the group returning from the hike scared it off. Needless to say, she didn't stay in the woods that night!
So, they are definitely around. Probably not in great numbers, but around.

Was deer hunting last november in maine and had a deer walk out at the edge of a beaver bog. It was very skitish coming in, unlike any deer movement I have seen. All of a sudden as I try to scope the deer, it leaps drasticlly to the right . I pull the scope down upset not to have a chance and the next thing I know a mountain lion jumps right onto the spot where the deer was standing. Crazy stuff. Couldnt believe what I was seeing. Had been lots of talk of sightings crossing the roads but never thought I would get the chance to see one in the woods.
