hardcoresledder isn't as hardcore without us dumbasses all right here to have our own topic.
besides, we get high off 110 and then go jump a sled off of a ramp to woodchips...maybe back siding the landing a few times here and there like a certain person on a haggard-ass 440 snopro (not saying names here *cough*jay*cough*
....just to see what happens!!!!!!!!!

i think we should just ask any freestyle related questions on this topic until someone makes a catagorie for us. i want to start off by saying that that is a ballin jump jesse. was that a 60 footer? another question for you guys. im getting into freestyle this year for sure my dad picked up a bobcat skidsteer and with any luck i have a comp ramp coming home. i was just wondering how i should start. im kinda nervous about over/under shooting the landing. what would be a good distance to start at? is there any way to really speed check?
thanks,
gunnar

thanks man that jump was on a jacked up comp ramp, about 55 feet to the sweet spot.
If youre building your own landing, make sure its something youre comfortable with. some people like them steep so the landing is smooth. I prefer having a landing that is more planed out like the one in my sig. Its a little rougher when you land but you have a lot more landing to hit when youre coming down from the air. Its all a matter of preference. With the comp ramp set it up very very close on your first hits. You can judge your speed by coming in on a line next to the ramp and coasting by it. Dont start off too far back. It may seem like theres a lot of guys jumping decent gaps but STAY AT YOUR COMFORT LEVEL. when you know for sure that youre ready to pull the ramp back then you can. but dont feel pressured to pull it back when youre not ready. getting hurt is not worth it at all.

Yeah a freestyle forum would be really sweet! I don't understand hardcoresledder, they recently created a forum for the ''rotax triple'' (that was cool in the 90's) but they don't want to create one for the freestyle (which is cool NOW)...
I don't have a freestyle ramp but I really enjoy jumping and I plan on going bigger next winter!

Yeah I just rented a bobcat and dug a huge hole for my first landing. then a year later I paid a guy with a big loader to come out and make it huge.
A lot of times excavating places have extra junk dirt that they are happy to get rid of.

doesnt really affect anything jumping-wise. its just a bad idea to have them IMO. if you end up bailing and getting sucked into the track somehow its gonna tear you up pretty good.

They might be nice if you are thinking of going to queerland sledpark. When I was up there last year I was spinning quite a bit on some of my in runs, it tends to get icy.
Anyone been doing any riding yet this fall? I have been working on getting my feet higher when doing grabs.

why stop at a triple go for the quad flip.
i showed my wood tech teacher the plans for the comp 1 ramp he said it would be easy to make he got real into it to he told me exactly what wood to use on the deck and the thickness of it and that it has to be green tree wood and what nails to use. but my question is this he said he could make it out of all wood instead of steel would this be a good idea? i mean since roofs on a house and everything are made of wood. and the green tree wood doesn't rot. i am going to be hitting the ramp every week and almost all day on the weekends. and with a bike in the summer so should i just pay the extra for the steel what do you think would be best and what would be the price for making it out of steel and wood I'm thinking around 700-800 for steel and 350-450 for wood.

I would go with steel.. the roof of a house dose not have the mass of a 600 pound object driving up it at 60 mph

Lol, steel!!!! A wood ramp is gonna have some flex and give, and over time it is just gonna get worse. If you are gonna make the investment you need to just suck up and do it right.

I built mine 3 years ago and only had about $450 into the whole thing but im sure prices on steel are a bit more now. I got my steel from a local place.

ZRider600
Sep 26 2008, 01:28 PM
yeah your best bet is steel. you'll loosen up the wood ramp worse than ur date on prom night after a few hits. its better to pay the couple hundred extra and go with steel. I built my superkicker last march and the steel cost me 625 bucks. i worked at a steel plant so i got it from there at a lower rate, but i dont think it was that much cheaper. the decking cost us about 120 bucks. We used AdvanTec plywood so its guaranteed for 50 years! Ha yeah right. Im sure you can find some of your buddies to weld it for you. Bring it to the metal shop class, give them a little project.

i think I'm going to be spending my prom night welding the ramp. I e-mailed the cut list to a local steel companie. he said he would give me pretty good estimate by Monday. as long as its under 850 to order the steel i could do it which it should be.

theyre pretty much the same. mine is a one industries seat for a cr 250. i shaved the foam down to make it easier to grab and re-covered it. making the frame was a pain in the ass tho.
