Sorry I havent been updating guys... Been working 14-16 hour days on the fire.
Yesterday we evacuated CR 407 From the Wolf Inn to Broken Hammer Trail head ( Pine Stump ) . They placed a fire truck at every house and cabin along the route and bull dozed fire lines around some of them as the fire was heading towards the intersection of CR 407 and CR 414. We hit every camp ground and trail and evacuated the cabins on the CCI road ( Trail 9 ) and everything south of CR 414.
County Road 407 Is Closed. Power was cutt off from approx 1 pm till midnight last night.
IMPORTANT: If anyone is planning on coming up 4 wheeling or camping please stay out of the area. Spotter planes have been seeing ORV's sneeking in to check out the fire which takes us away from evacuations to look for them.NO CABINS OR HOMES HAVE BEEN LOST AS OF YET ! The firemen and women are doing a great job ! Also the Air National Guard Choppers !
ALSO: So far they are saying this morning that 19,238 Acres have been burned. Here is a Pic from the Mining Journal. This was about where we were staged. You could feel the heat from the fire where we were standing.Click to view attachment

Keep up the good work LawDog. Let all everyone know we appreciate their efforts in protecting the area we all enjoy playing in.
My son is with some friends in Curtis and has been watching the planes land on the lake getting water. He said he waves to them every time they fly by.

Just plain idiots, Ballzy! That's why more and more laws get created to protect us from ourselves because of a few morons that have no common sense. Really good candidates for Darwin awards, I'd say!
Thanks LawDog and all working the fire........

IT HAS NOT CROSSED 414 AS OF LAST NIGHT... THEY STOPPED IT EAST OF CR 420 ( OFF OF 414 NEAR PINE STUMP ). THEY HAVE A GROUP OF WISCONSIN FIREFIGHTERS THAT CAME TO HELP AND THEY STOPPED IT THERE.......
THEY DIDNT HAVE A MAP YET THIS MORNING , BUT WHEN I GET ONE I WILL POST THE UPDATE...
AS OF RIGHT NOW ITS NOW OVER 20,000 AND 1 OLD OLD OLD ABANDON CABIN WAS LOST TODAY. THE CABIN WAS NOT LIVABLE. AND I THINK IT WAS NEAR THE MURPHY CREEK AREA OFF OF M-123.

But the Red Cross, Salvation Army, Air Attack Water tankers from MN, ARmy NAtional Guard, Law Enforcement Agencies from all over the Mid and Eastern U.P., Fire Depts from the EUP, WIsconsin Firefighters, DNR, Search And Rescue, Sheriff Aux, Local Residents, Eateries and Stores and Business's, County Road Commission, and many many other volunteers from all over.

Thanks LawDog, I have friends that own a house we stay at , just past Wolf's Inn, on the corner. I'm sure they will be happy to here fire trucks are sitting by the houses. Then again they might make money if it burns.

Keep us posted on 407.

if you go to the DNR site there is a map there that shows that fire area, on the south side of the fire line is "road that was put in to act as the fire line. Remember this "road is across a pretty bad swamp. it will be the south line where the fire has been stopped it shows up as the completed dozer line.

As silly as this may sound, I thought that I would never have to hear about
stuff like this happening in Michigan. It really sicken's me to think(especially
after looking at the DNR map that nicksxr posted)about the amount of destruction
this fire has done.

Any idea on where the fire started from LD??
And THANK YOU for updating us and for all the hard work that you and everybody
else up there is doing.

SAYA... It was a lighting Strike... Both sides of CR 407 were hit .. One side burned 40 acres and was contained, but the other quickly spread......
I havent been on the fire since tuesday and maybe going back out tomorrow night.. There have been many guys and gals there from the start incuding my Sheriff and Undersheriff... The support that the whole state is showing our community is amazing......
