Who's interested in a vintage sled ride in MI? here's what I'm thinking- 70' and 80's model sleds, ride on a Sunday starting at daylight (the trails will be fresh groomed and there isn't that much traffic on a sunday morning-we can count on smooth trails until afternoon). As far as where -somewhere in the northern lower-we can pic an exact location later...
Whada ya think? motoneige31.gif

Well, I like to ride the newer ones but givin enough leeway. I should be able to make it happen, unless I have my kids.. They won't be caught on one, LOL. Kevin

I think there is a vintage ride in Michigan....check www.VSCA.com and log into the Bull Sessions and ask.

I'd try to get this moved into the Michigan forum...seems like it would do better there?

what kind of sled do you have?
sleddinfool
71 puma 340, 73 moto-ski f-440, 74 chaparral 440ssx, 73 chaparral firebird 340, 73 chaparral ss3, 72 chaparral firebird 440, 72 bolens sprint tw440, 87 ski-doo skandic. I think the only one currently registered though is the 72 chaparral firebird. Kevin

I would definately be interested, If we get the snow maybe even do the thumb trails. I haven't had my old Pantera out in a couple years, doh.

I'd be down with it. I'd like to trail ride one of my GPX's once...
fixitguy74
Depending on the dates I'd be up for it.

I wouldn't mind even getting one of my GPX'S to run!
might be interested though. my chap, moto ski and colt 175 run though
Phoenix
well, it looks like there's plenty of interest. I'll post this again in December- here as well as on some other sites...I just picked up an '83 Polaris Indy Trail that's probably going to be my ride xmas-smiley2.gif

I'm in! Let me know when the dates are!

If not too big (lots of peeps) the foolsbro and I could probably get this going from either one of our places up near Hale. There is not usually a lot of snow there any more but with bogies who needs it, LOL. Also it is not nearly as crowded around here as say Gaylord -Mancelona ect.. Kevin.
vintage sled nut
A topic on Michigan Vintage ride was started in the Michigan forum, also. I know it was a different person in a different area. That is actually good if we can get more than one ride. With the cost of properly permitting a pair of my old sleds, I would hope to have more than one event to take them to. Last year, I went to International Falls, MN with a for the Vintagesleds.com ride with Michigan-built Skiroule. It was free there, nad involved no ugly stickers.

I will likely permit the sled I rode there last winter, as it is super reliable. I do have a 1968 Skiroule with bogies, but it will need some work to ride. I guess I have time if I get off of this computer and go to the garage and work on it? I was thinking more about taking either one of my Skiroule 447s, or a Brut for the other trail sled. Then, I guess the Alouette Super Brute might be easy to get ready for a ride. Hmmm. I guess I will have to think about this.

Keep us posted on the ride date and location. I am definately interested in riding!

Count me in!!!!!!! I will be on a 77 Polaris Electra.

This would be my first choice for the vintage sleds because the trails are tight and twisty-open trails arn't that much fun when you've only got 50hp! or less...but if we have to we'll go west farther to find snow, Cadillac and Lake county is real nice too...

let's see some pics of the sleds that r goin'!Click to view attachment

Nice sleds!
I've got some questions for ya- where is your place at in Hale? and-do you know how much hp those Pumas had? 440 & 340
alleycat
pinned for ya.
sleddinfool
Phoenix, I am thinking in the 28 hp range for the 340 and maybe 32 for the 440.. Somewhere in between for the 399? Not positive.
My place is just north of the bear store if you know where that is. My brothers (thefoolsbro) is about 3 miles south of the bear store. Kevin

Found a JD 500 yesterday. Owner says motor ran... but has been outside and the thing looks too ragged out to restore. Maybe if somebody is looking for parts?? Mike

I'm in, just picked up a gourgeous 72 Puma 340 last night.
gutshot
sorry to bust in on this thread but i picked up a new, but older motor last night and need some help with idenitfication and such.

the most i know is what is on the engine:
Rockwell JLO
model 395 3041
396 ccm's
has the numbers 395-07-001-00 on the clutch side of the jug.

the cluch has the numbers:
600757-5 on the backside and on front assy #142400, salsbury, USA

i need to locate a carb, exhaust, muffler, and i think maybe a fuel pump for it to run.
looking into the cylinder it has never ran and has no rust inside.

also can i get an approx hp rating, year, oil to gas ratio, and what belt and secondary to use.

any info will be greatly appreciated.
o ya, i paid 50 bucks for it.

thanks
matt

Did you do a Google Search? I found some info on the JLO engine there. Appears it was used by Artic Cat, Scorpion, and MotoSki.

I'm the 1st one for a vintage ride, but make sure your sleds are registered and have trail permits if your riding trails. I went to a vintage ride about 6 years ago and some of the people in our party got tickets for not having trail pemits. If your on private property no problem.

The First annual "ride 'em like ya stole 'em" vintage sled ride is scheduled for Sunday January 13th @ Houghton Lake! We are going to start from the snowmobile parking lot on Owen rd. 2 miles south of the lake. There are are a handful of us signed up so far...pm me for more details.

The reason we picked Houghton Lake is because there are tons of small unmarked trails that will be a blast on the old sleds! There are also some nice loops in the marked trails and lots of snow covered roads. We can do all of our riding within 10 miles of the parking lot which will be great in case of break downs, plus we can come back and re-fuel. Also, Houghton LK. is pretty centrally located and not-far of a drive from most places. motoneige31.gif

there is a antique/vintage show this weekend on sat. in Hale Mi at
the township hall just north of the light in Hale. snow should be ok
for a couple laps around the horse track out back. plus a swap
meet. this is a no charge event. was pretty good last year for
the first time.
Phoenix
I will be announcing on either the 10th or 11th whether this ride is still on for Jan. 13th. If conditions do not permit for the 13th, the ride will be re-scheduled for the following weekend. It will go on though! snowfall.gif

I'm planning on being up at Houghton Lake next weekend anyways. Sure would like to catch this event if it happens. What time are you thinking of starting? Will need directions please.

This event will happen-if not next weekend, then the next one or the one after....we are meeting @ 7:30 AM at the snowmobile parking lot on Owens drive. Owens dr. intersects with M-55 1 1/2 miles east of Spicers Boat City. The parking lot is 3/4 of a mile south of M-55 on the west side of the road. thumbsup.png

I saw the topic and then I saw Hooper1000 was on here. I have one question:

Is this a "vintage" ride because the age of the age of the sled or the rider?

I will go put my nose in the corner now.

The forcast for Houghton Lake is as follows: Thursday night, 7-8" of snow! Friday-2" additonal snow! Below freezing temperatures from Thursday night on! i_need_snow.gif
Phoenix
The ride is on! they got 3-4" of heavy snow in Houghton Lake and they are supposed to get a little more. Temperatures have been below freezing since last night and are supposed to stay that way. There should be plenty of snow to run the old sleds on as the trails in this area are pretty smooth-ie.-no rocks.

We are going to meet @ 9:00 AM (instead of the original time of 7:30) at the snowmobile parking lot on Owens drive. I would appriciate it if everyone who is going could PM me and let me know by tomorrow evening~Dave. HCS_rules.gif

Yea, it happened and we had a blast! It was only myself and two life-long friends-no one else showed up!-I don't know if they didn't think there was enough snow or what? Didn't matter, there was plenty of snow (there was still some snow and ice from before the thaw believe it or not!) and we had a great time. We might be doing it again next month.

One of my friends is going to post some pics. motoneige31.gif

There will be a 340 Enticer, 340 Jag, 440 Pantera, 340 Trail Twister or a 75 GPX433G...the more the better. beer_cheers.gif

I have two sweet enticers that would be perfect for this ride. I will be up in cadillac this weekend, one is a 1980 yamaha enticer 340 and the other is a 1985 yamaha enticer 340. Both are blue, running great and ready to go. Let me know where you are meeting and what time. I usually ride near boon, there is a gas station there and near the lost pine lodge.

Also what can you tell me about snow girls gone wild???
