I have a buddy looking to get a quad for trail riding and he's wondering what utility quads get for MPG?

Any info???

Thanks,

I have a Honda Rancher 4X4 utility quad (329cc 4-stroke engine) that averages 30-40 mpg, depending on the conditions and the speed at which I'm riding. If I were to cruise at a steady 30 mph, I'd probably be able to get even better mileage, but I like to ride wide-open on old logging roads whenever I get the chance. The Rancher tops out at 52 mph on GPS. That seems fairly fast until you look at my brother's quad ...

... My brother has a Kawasaki Prairie 4X4 utility quad (700cc 4-stroke engine) that doesn't do nearly as well as my Honda in the mpg department, but it is one of the fastest and most powerful ATVs made. Big engines make big horsepower, which explains the lower mpg numbers to some degree, but he also frequently races other 4-wheelers, which also helps explain the lower mpg numbers.

Thanks for the reply - anyone else???

06 Poo Sportsman 800, reg trail riding 25 to 30 miles a gal, but when you get on the flipper it drops considerably. But no issues seeing 100+ miles to a tank

I have a 2007 Arctic 650 H1, sure it may not have the power of the competition's 650 V twins, but i paid less than an outlander 500 by a good margin. As far as the MPG goesi usually use mine around the yard in low range and 4wd and i have got just shy of 20 a few times for the low end and went mudding with a guy with a Rancher with big mudding tires my odometer showed 45 miles his showed 54 and we both took the same 1.5 gallons of gas (the 1996 400 sportsman took 2.5 gallons). My buddy filled up first and he said " not bad only tood 1.5 gallons that is almost 40 MPG" he didn't say much after i filled and took the same amount of gas. I don't know if my odo shows low of his shows high but we were both stuck about the same amount of times (i really need to take the plow mounts off before i go mudding again they are flat on the front side, stick down a couple inches and catch on a lot of stuff). With my 6.5 gallon tank i can go a hell of a long way, around 120 miles if i get the 18 that i got around the yard in low and 4wd, or 160+ if i get the 30+ like o got on the trip mudding through the forest with a good combination of mudding (4wd and 4 low) and 40+ MPH straights (in 2wd) and a couple forest roads . I havn't pulled out a GPS, but on the speedo i hit 60 finally now that i hit the 300 total miles on the odo, it hit 52 when brand new. I would have paid a mere $400 more for mine (if i went with a stock color) than another buddy did for his 2005 Rancher, after a bit of seat time between my Arctic and his honda i am SUPER happy with my purchace, getting a real "big boy's" ATV for barely more than a Rancher while getting the same fuel economy, MUCH better ride, power, clearance and top end. The only things that the Rancher has over my H1 is that itis small light and can carve a corner a little tighter and it has less steering effort so the wife gets tired faster on the Cat.

50+ mpg on my 04 suzuki z400. And thats on tight trails and in pits, wide open trails/logging roads I would guess it would be better.

Damn, mileage is all over the place 18 - 50+ - I had no idea there was this much difference???

Ya I would like to see how accurate some of these guys gauge their tanks!!

I average after doing exhaust and jetting my 06 Vinson 500 4x4 around 120km before I hit reserve. I have gone as much as 145km without touching it and on the same trip, the 03 foreman 450 I was riding with hit reserve at 110km.

I never figured it out, but my 400 Kodiak 4X4 gets good mileage. I can ride pretty much all day on half a tank if that. That's all kinds of riding. Trails, racing Wide open, hill climbing, mudding, rock climbing. It don't have a speedo, so I can't really determine what the actual milage is. It does better than my buddies 350 Polaris and way better then my buddies Raptor 660 and my dad's 400 Cat.

We have a 2004 Honda Rubicon that gets 120 kms to the tank using the reserve and a 2005 Honda Rubicon that gets the same without the reserve.
