You could say that in IL too, but historically is it OK?

traditionally there is always consistant riding, atleast somewhat consistent. . . anywhere north of hwy 8. there are some times where there is poor condidions in Elcho, and just 30-40 miles north, the trails can be bery nice. And other times where the trails are great in elcho as well.

X2... This past season we were heading up to Eagle river to get better snow... well we thought instead we stopped in antigo and went snowmobiling around that area.. the trails were a lot better than what we were going to go on... Sometimes far north isnt the best idea....

I usually ride that area-but never made it over there this year. We were lucky to have our trails open for two weeks here in the Wausau area. This season was another bust.
My best riding was not the U.P., Wausau, Rhinelander area this year. In fact my best riding was along areas of hwy 10. We got a nice dumping the end of February/March and that made for a great week of riding. And yes that was about all it lasted was a week. But it was some of the best trail riding I've had in two or three years.
With all the snow you get in Madison and Illinois it won't be long until you see the caravan of trucks and trailers heading south to ride!

To the east of Elcho about 15 miles is Pickerel area. Some of the best trails you will ever ride are there. Jack Lake trails, etc. Superb area when the snow is there.

I am looking at a cabin up there and it would be of no use without being decent. I have ridden around rhinelander and sugar camp for years, but was worried about the extra 20-30 miles south.

We ride from our cabin there starting new years weekend until the end of march most years. Last year was hit and miss, but since 1988 we have not been let down for those three months. Elcho and Harrison hills area has a lot of nice loop trails making for lots of riding close to home. Thumbs up on the Jack Lake and Pickerel loops too. All are very nice.
