You need to fax the sled info: make, model and serial number ect to US Customes 72 Hours in advance.

When you pick up the sled you need to stop at US customs on the way out and have your bill of sale stamped before you attend the Cdn border crossing. In some states such as MN you will need the registration card as well, it will serve as the title.

Then when you reach Cdn customs they will complete a Form 1 if you plan to register the sled and a Form 3 if it's for parts. You will also have to pay GST at the border.

When you get back you'll have to goto www.riv.ca and pay the $209.00 fee. You will need info off the form 1 to pay online. If the sled it for parts then the fee is only around $70 but you will not be able to register the sled if you go that route.

You will have to contact BRP or Polaris what ever brand the sled is and obtain a recall clearance letter and fax it to RIV.

After RIV has the form 1 completed at the border, your payment of the $209 and the recall clearance letter then they will give you the inspection form.

You then take the sled, Form 1 and the inspection form to Canadian tire and they will give is a 30 sec inspection which requires you to start it, show the headlights work and the kill switch. The sled will also have to have the decal on the side with the vehicle info.

The Canadian tire inspector will stap your form 1 which you will now take to an Autopac agent with your bill of sale and title and you can then register the sled and pay the PST.

So to recap fees....GST, PST and $209 Riv fee.

Hope that helps

Some paper work must have been completed to bring it into Canada. Has the sled been registered here?

If you want to register it, no way around the 209 riv fee, tried all, race only parts, just wont happen with out paying the man, u can claim it as a race only closed circut sled, but no registration.

We just got back from bringing another one across. The decal that shows the date the sled was manufactured was rubbed off and this date was not on the recall clearance letter.

I would suggest having the person take a picture of that decal (on tunnel beside serial number) and email it to you before you go.

Also take the add or print off classified add to show Canadian border. We were there for a long time tonight with the border guard on dootalk.com because they didn't believe the price on the bill of sale.

If you do your homework it's not big deal but if you forget something you can get held up.....we've done it a few times and still had trouble because we didn't know that decal was missing from the sled.

Great info! thanks I was planning to go down and get a 4 stroke sometime this fall/winter.
I knew most of things that had to be done, but the break down you gave was great.

You might have to pay an additional 6% if it,s a Yammie cus it,s made in Japan. Some border guys don,t pick up on it but some will nail you on it....luck of the draw.

I second the advice of printing out the add that lists the price it was selling for, I had to argue for over an hour with a bitch of a border guard she even called the guy I bought it from and still did'nt believe
what I paid for it. She wanted me to use her computer and prove how much money I withdrew out of my bank account that is when I asked for the superviser.
