Myself and two other guys are looking to start planning a trip in late January of 2008 to the Upper New York State area to do some riding. I have heard riding in the Adirondaks is a great time, the closest you can get to mountain riding without going out west, so I am looking for input on what areas are the best to visit that offer a large amount of off trail/powder riding. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Darrell,

I don't mean to discourage or disappoint but, I don't believe you'll find a "large" amount of "off trail/powder riding" in New York. Do we get alot of lake effect powder? sure, sometimes. Most of the powder riding in N.Y. is on a trail system. Alot of our trails cross private property and off trail riding will get a trail closed. There is limited off trail riding I'm just not sure how much you're looking for and hate to see you make the long drive and be disappointed. There is some good riding to be had here though..welcome...mike
