Hello all,

I have just purchased a 440 pro xr and I cant stand the little race seat. I am thinking of putting a normal sized seat from an '02 or '03 pro x on there. Is this a pretty easy conversion? I am also planning on putting on a larger fuel tank. Does anyone have any advice for me on these projects before I get started?

I'd also like to add a speedometer to the sled. Anyone have one for sale? How hard is this to install, aside from drilling the mounting hole?

PS, let me know if you have any of these parts for sale!

Thanks for any info,

Arik

My advice is to sell the ProXr and buy a consumer model, out of all the ProX's you picked the one that is the hardest to change. Just changing the seat and tank will do you no good unless you want your sled to ride like you have ape hangers like a chopper, your hands would be above your head when sitting. To be able to put a lower seat and tank on it you need to put a lower steering hoop and steering post set up on it or your standard seat will hang over the back. After you get the new steering hoop you will probably want the full hood, belly pan and tank shroud to make it look right again. Its possible but alot of work to do to something when you can pick from a multitude of other ProX's that already have the setup you are looking for. SAVE THE XR"S

Rev seat, best option IMO.

I agree with the above poster.

Basically you want to convert an 04 into an 02-03. I would just trade it with someone.

1. The 04 hood does not have room for a speedo.
2. Large tank will not fit an 04, you need the 02-03 steering hoop, post, console, and hood
3. Seats are interchangeable from pretty much all the years, so that is the easy part. That shorty seat is worth alot more than a standard seat, and everyone is looking for them. It should be easy to find someone with a consumer prox looking for a shorty seat.

I've had both an 02 and 04, and the 04 is certainly a noticeably better handling sled in all aspects, except for the fuel capacity issue.

ill trade you all my 03 440 steering crap and hoop for the 04 stuff

...keep the 04 steering and put a rev seat on!! The standard under-motor setup sucks vs. the more rider forward 04, dont switch to it. Sell that shorty seat, take the money and buy a rev setup. You'll probably make money on the deal!

Thank you for all of the input guys. I have been doing a lot of research recently and think I have made a decision on the direction that I'm going to go.

First off, one of the major reasons I bought the '04 was for the steering--so I'm not going to sell or trade the sled. Thanks for the suggestions though!

I am going to do the REV tank/seat conversion. I have been getting together a pretty cool shop now, and I have a tig welder/lathe/mill and a lot of the needed fabrication equip, so I dont see any problem doing that. I'm going to try to take a bunch of pictures as I go, if anyone cares to see the details! I know that I certainly appreciate all of the pics from other people to help get the wheels turning in my head! I've got months before we even start to think about any snow here in Buffalo, so that should be plently of time for me to do a real nice and clean swap. I definitely want the job to look as clean as possible.

Squid, I cant see in your pics...where did you relocate the pull handle to?

How much is a shorty seat worth to people? Mine is a slight tear in the front corner, but is hardly noticable unless you look for it. I think the seat actually looks kinda cool on the sled, but I am a big rider and it just feels too squishy for me. Is the rev seat comparable height to the 04 short race seat?

Thanks for all the info and keep any tips/suggestions coming my way!

This pic should help. I had to trim a little of the hood to make it work.

I got ~$230 for mine I think and it has some tears at the lower corners from boots. I then paid $40 for a rev tank, $100 for an 03 440 seat, and $40 for the aluminum supports.

The 440 ones will be. The 04+ seats are taller and better looking then the 03 that I've got.

Just an FYI, you will have to modify your airbox. Since I have a slightly different engine then yours I just went to pods. You'll probably have to cut and put another angled plastic piece like is on the left corner. The cooling lines might need a little tweaking too. I can't quite remember since I had to completely redo my entire system. Not a big deal if you do however.

I have an 06 renegade seat on my 440, it is higher than when i sat on my poo 440 shorty...the rev seat is a lot more comfortable and you arent forced to ride sitting farther back. Good call going the rev tank/seat setup!

I'll post these in the classified section too, but here is the shorty seat if anyone is interested. I've gotten a few emails. Make an offer on it...

For sure...are you doing a system similar to mine with the modified rev braces or holding the front of the tank and seat down some other way??
