well i took my blaster out to a track in the sand pit. im new to a clutch so when i was hitting the sandy whoops and shit i was consistently in to low of a gear it seemed. i was using 2nd/3rd when i think i should of been in more of a 3rd/4th. so the engine was constantly revving high. well i was riding and i heard a knocking noise, not sure if it was from the motor, or something else that was loose. damn things vibrate so bad. well i went back to the truck and i stopped to let idle and it kinda idled down and died. well i tried to start it and had trouble starting it without the choke. i got it started once then it died agian. well i waited and watched others ride for about 5 minutes, then it started right up. i went and drove around and it seemed fine. only thing that seemed weird was that it seemed to run through the gears quicker. id be up in 6th in no time. it was like this before but it didnt seem to have the top speed that it should. my friend also thought it was smoking a little more then normal. i wasnt sure if it was beings ive never seen it be driven, always been the driver so im not sure if the smoke was normal. does it sound like i overheated it? and will staying in a higher gear help this obviously? also they sell those air fins, would that help alot, or no? if i overheated it, do you think the rings are f'ed? tell me what you think. dont bash about being in to low of a gear, and over revving it. this is my first quad with a clutch, our other 4 are all auto polaris's. thanks guys.

first off is it pre-mix or oil injected....that could be your smoking problem....
fastcatF7
dont waste your money on the air fins they wont do much on a blaster, as far as smoking goes its a 2 stroke could have just began to run a little to rich they have carbs so you could need to clean or rebuild your carb. also check and make sure your air filter is clean.
jordan123
seems to run perfect now. maybe it was all in my head, or maybe it just flooded from the carb or something, who knows. umm, yes it is injection by the way. i had just cleaned the filter before going out there but could have gotten sand in it or something.

first off your blaster is air cooled, if and when it over heats it will seize, which is unlikely, unless the jetting is way off??? so its either jetting, dirty carb, our as fast cat said dirty air filter. them blasters are alot of fun, used to have one with a 240cc kit, thing ripped. good luck.
fastcatF7
my guess would be that you got some sand in the carb or something and i just happened to clean itself out. doubt that though

or: it just loaded up and didnt clean out right away, that would explain the smoking
jordan123
yeah, im sure it was something like that. im pretty sure the jetting is stock. the kid who owned it before me didnt do a hell of alot of maintenance. there was a new chain on it, and that in itself amazed me. ill have to go through the carb.
fastcatF7
that should fix any troubles, if it has a choke make sure that it stays properly adjusted, there are also certain types of spark arrestors that plug up make sure that if it has one that it is clean

thanks, i try

just a few questions. the choke lever is ono of those pull type chokes right off of the carb, like on a dirtbike. how do i adjust these? i know how to adjust the cable type, but not these. also, how do i tell if my pipe is plugged up or not? i know on our polaris scrambler that i use to drive, the pipe plugged up and we had no choice to but to buy a new one. the whole exhaust system on my blaster is stock. thanks alot for the help guys.
fastcatF7
im not sure on the choke i have never had to just one like that but there should be a small screw somewhere near the end of the pipe, when you unscrew it you should be able to pull out a smaller tube like object. thats the spark arrestor, just clean i out with some break or carb cleaner.
jordan123
theres nothing like that in my pipe. i can take the back end cap off with 3 screws, should i do that?
fastcatF7
you can take the end off just remember how things go together and you will be fine should be a spark arrestor in there
jordan123
everything looked clean to me.
jordan123
i took the filter off and in the tube(between the filter and carb) there was a few puddles of oil and some particals of sand. i took the carb off to clean it all out and theres a few particals of sand in the carb. im thinking maybe the plug fouling out beings it seems to be pretty rich on oil?

2 strokes generally will run rich, keep cleaning and change the plugs.
jordan123
yeah, i have the carb tore apart right now, theres a few particals of sand. nothing serious i dont think. have you owned a blaster before?

nope
jordan123
alright, i was wondering how to adjust the idle. there is no idle adjust on the carb but on the cable system on top of the carb(it has that electronic shut off bullshit) i was wondering if that screw was the idle adjust.
fastcatF7
that screw should adjust it
REV-88
The big screw on the box on the carb cap will adjust your idle. It's the TORS system. I've owned three blasters over the years and they're notorious for the TORS going out of whack. I've seen it many times where they would quit idling and start hard out on the trails and you'll have to play with the screw to get them running properly again.
jordan123
yeah, most of the time it will kick over the first time, but other times it wont start until you kick the shit out of it. maybe that system is getting all screwy?
FASTPRED
are you soaking your air filter with oil?i have seen people put too much oil on the air filter causing some pretty weird things to happen,ie fould plugs, excessive smoking, bogging, rough idle etc, just a thought.
jordan123
i cleaned it in some gas the other day,but never did oil it.
