Well as the summer goes on more and more I keep running into people who have no clue about what they are doing at the boat ramp. My first bitch would be the fishing tournaments, fine have fun catch the big fish but dont sit around the ramp filling it up with your high dollar boats sitting on the trailers after it is over and talk about who caught what, get the fuck out of the way. The ramp I use the most has room for about 10 or 12 trucks and trailers and not being a lake home owner I have to park there and go have my fun and then go home, It never fails to have trucks parked in all directions greatly reducing the amount of spots , or some cars setting in a spot with no trailer, now that really pisses me off, I should keep a log chain in the truck to pull them out of the lot but I try to keep my cool and just leave them a note on how much of a dick they are. How about the guy who pulls into the ramp gets all in front of the boat ramp then has to unload the play toys into the boat , untie the boat ,( which most of them forget this untill they are in the water) or gets it backed in only to then find out that his battery is dead. The ramp I use there is no problem using the motor to drive off the trailer or on to it, but you still have people with a rope tied to the trailer and to the boat that back the thing in and float it off then slowly pull the thing out of the way so they can then pull their truck out.
Loading is a whole another story , 90 percent of the boaters have no idea on how far to put their trailer in the water, or they want to crank the damn thing the last 4 ft to the bow stop. Now of course this is my opinion but for most trailers if you back in so you can see the top 3 inches of the fenders is far enough, then you can drive on the trailer and the boat wont go under the bow stop and will self center itself. Oh and please have a vehicle that can pull your toy out of the ramp without putting 5 people on the rear bumper to try and get traction. After they pull out then of course we have to wipe off the boat and tie it down, (which I do as well) but get the hell out of the way first, and dont park anyone in that is trying to back into the ramp. The wife laughs at me cause most of the time I get out of the truck while waiting and just go down to the ramp and mostly do what ever needs done to speed things up., back the truck in, drive the boat on , get the thing running, maybe give them some tips to try and help. I get some looks some days when I dont have the mind to wait and just back the thing right in off to the side of the ramp ( not on the ramp but on the rip rap rocks beside the ramp) which I might add my unloading prob takes me about 30 secs to do , if I can get to the water. Sometimes I even load beside the ramp , that is a hoot when you have been waiting on someone to get done and it is taking them forever and you just back in beside them and pull out , wipe off and leave while they are still trying to figure out how many people it is going to take in the water up to their waist to center the boat , that wont seem to go on the trailer right and the bow keeps going under the bow stop.
Lets hear some of your good stories.

I always get a kick about the guys who forget to put in the drain plug.

I totally understand your gripes. When I had my Wet Bikes and launched in Lake Huron at Lexington, MI I saw all kinds of stupidity. The dead battery was a good one or let me park my trailer in the water while my buddy takes his time driving into the marina to load even though several boats are waiting to load or launch right away. Then theres the guy who can't back up with a trailer to save his life. My first few times I ever launched anything I was a little slow, but not as bad as some idiots that are even regulars at the lake. It helps if people would read the posted signs, like "Do not park in launch lane to tie down craft, Proceed up the hill". Some people need to pay more attention or should not be aloud to use boats or trailers of any kind.

We used to ski at a local lake every Wednesday night. Two weeks in a row I saw guys back down the ramp (kind of steep) and their boats slipped off the trailer onto the concrete before the got to the water because they unhooked.

I also had to help a Russian guy because he loaded six people into his brand new seventeen foot boat and did not know how to get it into gear. Once he got it backed up he proceeded to go out the 2.5' deep channel with his motor all the way down. I felt bad that I helped him, he was likely going to kill some one.

our old lake had a public ramp with people who would need 30 mins to put their boat on the trailer so we would go back down the grass on the side power up and out in 30 seconds. driver of the truck never left the driver seat and same with the driver of the boat

How about the goofs who pull the boat into the launch while Gomer retrieves the truck and trailer he doesn't know how to back up.
What the fuck is so hard about idling out of the way while someone retrieves the truck?

I always take the bow strap off when we're lined up with the trailer tires in the water and do our last walk around before launching it, and never a problem doing it. the boat doesn't budge until its well in the water.

I usually pull the boat off and tie it to the dock, but the dock is right beside the ramp so we have the rig out moments after the launch.

I've seen some funny stuff at the ramp.. they do rentals at the marina and often you see them with the trim right up and they are perplexed as to why the boat won't go fast... lol

Not a boat ramp story, but it is a true story that every time I think about it I laugh. Years ago I was a marine mechanic in upstate NY.

Two women show up one morning to launch there boat with 2 young kids. She pays her registration and asks a few more questions. One of the guys asks her if she needs a hand off loading the boat or backing it down the ramp. She proceeds to say "and why do you think I need help because I am a women". Turns out she was recently divorced and the boat was hers in the settlement. I found this out later. So off they go. Roughly 2 hours later she pulls back into the marina and complains her boat will not get on plain. I did not see this part it was the other guy who witnessed all of this. He first thinks she did not put her hull plug in, but once he looks over the dock he tells the women to pull over to the launch ramp then go get her truck. He comes and tell me follow me you have to see this. She pulls over to the boat launch and yes you guessed it she unhooked the boat trailer from the truck with the boat still attached to the trailer. She backs the truck down we hook up the trailer and off she goes never to be seen again. If I did not see it with my own eyes I would never have believed it. One of the funniest things I have ever witnessed.

I see that all the time as well Vince..... Some people feel like they just own everything around them and screw the rest of you.

For me, I do my walk around well before I get ready to launch. Drew gets in the boat, I unhook the safety chain, back down the ramp, start the boat, I unhook the strap, he backs out and moves to a large dock or he idles around away from the ramp until I park. I think the process involves 20 seconds and the next guy is ready to go.....pretty simple.

once watched an older couple backing a fishing boat in with an old Pacer, the women was driving and the man was in the boat...after unloading the boat, ready to pull the trailer out, the car stalls and rolls backwards and starts to float out into the lake (nobody was hurt/injured) one of the funniest things ever

How about the jack-off in the brand new Skeeter that power loads right in front of the big ass sign that says "NO POWER LOADING" and proceeds to spin the 23' cuddy cabin around that was docked next to him. The guy trying to hold the boat fell in the water, I went over to help him, while my wife bitched out the dumbass old man that thought the lake was his...

Old cranky farts who have to be rude at the ramp..... or people who think they know it all at the ramp grinning-smiley-023.gif And are rude!

I dont know how to drive a boat yet ( I am new to this boating thing) and me backing up a trailer is not something anyone needs to see. So we drop of hubby at the dock, and we try to get out of the way so OTHER People can go to the ramp and use it.. However like last weekend there was only one side to the dock the other side was too small to be putting the boat on....
One guy standing on the dock ( looking like he is just checking out things) No boat behind us,,, one in front of us. We talk with the guy ahead and he sais " go ahead were waiting " ( he was towing someone else). We pull into the dock, and next thing we know there is a boat about side swiping ours,, the old guy comes over and " We were here first, he was just getting the trailer" ....... ( No trailor in sight) and hubby tells him" Where did you guys comes from?sure the heck wasnt in Line to be here......
I respond,, if you like we can move the boat over so you guys can put youre boat on,, if you would just maybe give me a Hand.
their responce?" NO you go ahead and load YOURE Boat!" One Asked cant you just pull the boat out? I tried to explain " No I am sorry I dont have enough ex. yet to do that ( was windy too)" he again got nasty with me ( all while hubby is already backing in ) I finally told them " LOOK you were NOWHERE here in sight,,, all of a sudden youre next to us, I try to offer to move the boat,,,, you didnt want it. SO enough already with the rudeness!
Oh yeah then the one guy is like " Well thats the best way tp piss of other boaters!
I told him , well we been doing this for a bit now,,,,, and NOONE else had a problem with this ever! We ALWAYS try to be in and out fastest way!
We took a whole 5 minutes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that includes waiting for hubby and all putting boat on
People next to us were just shaking their heads.. at them. Their boat was the one broke down... and these people are yelling at them already " ITS OURE TURN NEXT!!!!!!!"

We come up to the level ground here is the guy trying to back up his HUGE car with the trailor..

Yea that normally happens once or twice a year on our lake.

On a side note you should need 30 seconds tops to get unloaded and loaded. The boat buddy has to be the best invention for boating ever.

so what happens if there really is no where to pull out of the way and the only place to put your boat is in the slip . and like was said you wouldnt want my girlfreind backing the trailer down or trying to pull it on the trailer . Ten minutes at a boat launch ruins a whole day of fun because of jack asses who wont wait there turn . I do everything possible to be fast everything is loaded and ready to go when im puttin in and when Im pulling out less than five minutes total unless your waiting on someone else ,which is just part of it .
Playn
In all seriousness you only need about a minute to unload or load a boat. Most boaters are pretty good people, just like the snowmobile crowd but you'll always find that exception to the rule particularly on a busy day at the ramp. I've really found it to be easier if I do everything myself but thats just because I have a system that works well for me. With more experience you'll come up with what works for you. Don't worry too much about the assholes, take your time and enjoy the day on the water.

Wait a minute,,, we did not cut in front of anyone..we asked the people ahead of us,,,,,if they needed help putting the boat out being they were being towed. The other people were nowhere arround the boatlaunch,,, and the guy standing on the launch, was not saying anything at all.. in the matter of anyone comming with a trailor UNTILL after we already had out boat secured on the dock AND then the guy pulled in behind us about sideswiping US.

Sorry,, I offerd to pull over to the side,,, if thats not good enough,,, piss on em !
5 Minutes is not going to kill anyone.. Ive seen guys down there untieing and tieing up,, we at least get the boat on and pull right out,,,without wasting time,,,, and we have 3 Kids! BTW only toook this long because hubby had to JOG to go get trailor,,, was 1/4 mile down the road.

I am so glad all of you bitching here are so perfect grinning-smiley-023.gif
Who all takes the family out.....? Wife , kids?
I really dont see the big deal,,, waiting for a couple of minutes,, why do you guys here have a fit over this is beyond me.... thought this was a relaxing sport. Never had a problem yet.. till last weekend ,,,,,

I have been boating for 20 plus years and have seen it all. I allways say if your ever board on a sunday afternoon just go down to the public ramp with a lawn chair. You will have plenty of laughs while your there.

I have seen plenty of irate people at the launch. The funniest this year was my buddy and I both launching, I am in and floating just off the docks waiting for him to launch. These fools are mooring right where you launch and my bud ( who just don't give a shit) asks the guy to move his boat so others can launch, the dumb ass just stands there so my bud drops in lets her slide off the bunk and lets his boat hit the dumb asses boat. My bud then proceeds to yell at him. He has a 17 foot lund that has many a bump and bruise , so one more wont hurt, but I am sure the scratch on the donzi will hurt. GET IN GET OUT ASAP. Not that hard.
Hooper700
all I am saying is have someone who can back the trailer in the water in a decent time and also have a person in the boat, (one that runs) ready to drive the boat off or on the trailer. Yes I know there are ramps that dont allow power loading but most everyone will power load at these ramps anyway. My trailer doesnt even have a winch on it so I have no choice but to load it with the motor, (drive it right to the bow stop) and it never has caused a problem. If someone is so close that it does cause a problem then I would say that they need to move and allow others access to the ramp. All of this is just my 2 cents and not directed at any one person.

Live on a private lake and the neighbor was letting some people use his ramp. Guy had a 2007 F-150 4x4 crew cab putting in a 18' boat and was worried about getting the tires wet. They had 5 guys in the water trying to push the boat off the trailer and another guy on the dock pulling with a rope. It was comical at first but they drove my dog nuts and I ended up having to put my dog inside becuase he was getting to wound up. I asked if they needed help but they said they could get it. I got a beer an watched. It took them 30 minutes to push the boat off the trailer. If he would have backed up a couple more feet the boat would have floated off the trailer. I put in and take out several boats at this ramp every year so I know the depth of the water. I was glad nobody got hurt the ramp is concrete and very slippery from moss and algae. The guys were slipping and sliding all over the place. Can't blame it on being drunk, they were drinking pop.

My little girl and I were out fishing on a local lake one day, and it was getting close to time come off the lake so we headed in. There were two boats ahead of us pulling out, then one waiting to put. The two went out, the boat in front of me pulled up to the dock and the guy waiting put in. He put in and back away. There was no one waiting at the point so I pulled up to the dock. As I got out of the boat, my little girl got out with me and some fucking asshole pulls up and starts backing down to launch were I am docked and my six year old is holding the boat. The lady next to to yells and the guy stops. Some 300 pound fat ass gets out with his kid and the ass hole driver pulls up and blocks both ramps. So the guy coming down the road to get the boat next to me can't. If I hadn't been lucky enough to get the first parking spot, and be able to back my trailer all the way through a feild to get around the fucker, I would not have been able to get my boat out. The fucker just sat there! I got my boat out after all the bull shit before the people next to me. I pulled out got out of the way and as I pass him, the fat ass looks at me and Nice day isn't it? He got the nice smile nod. As I got out the put top down and take care of things with my my little girl no less the same fucking asshole pulls up in the spot I was parked, jumps out of his van, shuts the door and starts to take a piss! I put my little girl in the truck. I know exactly what you are talking about. If he would have waited two minutes, all three of the boats could have been in and out. Walk five feet and use the out house. If I hadn't of hav my little girl with me, I would of had a lot more to say! There are to many ignorant assholes out there that need to get a clue.

Over the years I have had my share of bad boat landing experiences but this past Saturday night I pulled into the landing with my fishing boat at 11:00 pm after some late walleye fishing. There was a Caddy Escalade with a 22' wake board boat waiting at the landing with 4 young men waiting to launch. My 1st impression was here we go, some punk rich kids with daddy's truck and boat. This is going to take a while. As I pulled up to the on deck spot with my trailer they waved me past them. I backed the trailer down the ramp and 3 of them walked down and actually loaded my boat for me.
These were 4 of the nicest guys I've met in a long time. I offered them a beer and said thanks.
