Hey guys,
I'll be heading up to Lakehead University in Thunder Bay in the fall. My Dad and I have always wanted to go on a fly-in-fishing trip, and thought this would be a perfect opportunity. He would fly to t-bay and we would head on a trip while he's up. I was wondering if anyone has ever been on a fly-in trip. How was it? Where was it? How long? Nice cabins? descent boats?

I've done some research and it looks an awesome way to fish northwestern ontario. I just wanted some input as to whether any of you guys have experienced a trip like this.

Also, on the university note, I need posters and stuff for my dorm room, I'm having a hard time finding sledding posters, any ideas? I would like sledding, downhill skiing, slalom skiing, etc. I've got plenty of pics of me, but they obviously won't be as good as a massive poster.

Have a good summer, and get out on the water and land some monsters.
Cory

P.S Any one been to t-bay? what were your thoughts? I went and visited the city on March Break and loved it.

largest shit whole in the north, most natives per capita, highest gas prices ,food prices in ontario.....the university is old,the dorms are even older...some new ones but first year don't get them....all in all a great place to spend your next four years.....if you are drunk!

Thunder Bay's not THAT bad. It's not he greatest place in the world, but it's not the worst either.

What kind of fishing are you interested in?

Trout?
Walleye?
Other?

There are lots of places that fly out of Armstrong, north of Thunder Bay.
Or, you can go west towards Igance & Quetico.
I'm not sure if anyone flys directly out of Thunder Bay.

There's lots of places to drive to fishing too, The Nipigon River has some great fishing.
Beardmore has some Charter Boat operations that can offer some of the most amazing action anywhere. Check out Nighthawk Charters. Pricey, but a world class operation.

I'm sure you will find most places will offer up decent fishing. Just remeber, as with anything else, you gets what you pays for. Don't go for the cheapest you can find. If you're going to make this a "trip of a lifetime", do it right.

Good Luck!

HAHAHAAHA I didn't mind it... it's just like any other northern city, kinda ghetto in certain spots at least it's in a nice location... dorms weren't TOO bad, I can live with em.

Yeah I was looking at Armstrong, it seems to be the best place to fly out of... looks like a hell of a drive though... 3.5 hours from t-bay? We're looking for walleye and pike. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll definitely check it out. We won't be going for another year, I was just wondering if any of you guys have done a trip like this.
Thanks again.

Thunder Bay is alright ... I spent a bit of time there a few years ago . If you want an even bigger shit hole , go up to Sioux Lookout . I stayed in Ignace for a summer and we made the occasional trip to Sioux Lookout ..... take my word on this one ....if you ever go up that way ... walk on the opposite side of the sidewalk. I have nothing against natives , but the ones in Sioux Lookout get rowdy quickly ... I mean 9am and half of them on the sidewalk were drunk and looking to fight. I was there with a couple guys that I was working with , and a cop pulled up and told us it was in our best interest to walk on the opposite side of the street. We took his advice.

If you go up to Ignace , fish Sandbar Lake. We pulled a few 6lbs pickerel out of there the summer that I stayed in Ignace . Even saw a few 10lbs pike being reeled in . Quetico has some nice areas also .

Thunder Bay is not bad.
if you think gas is expensive in T Bay, take a drive west to Fort Frances. there are more Natives per capita in Kenora than there is in Thunder Bay.
Lake Superior is wonderful. fishing in the area is awesome!
i have done MANY fly-in fishing trips out of Fort Frances to wonderful outpost camps. great fishing!

Thunder Bay isn't all that bad. Try Timmins for awhile and you'll think Thunder Bay is great. Armstrong would be a good place to fly out of but for about an hour more drive you could fly of out Nakina north of Geraldton. If you like sking check out loch (thunder bay) and lusten (just across the US border).
