Trim went out yesterday after 10 yrs. of trouble free ridin. Fuse is OK, did'nt take hand controls apart since ski was on hoist and did'nt want to drop anything in the water. Anybody know of any common problems with these ?? Thanks Mike

It is very common on the zxi for the trim to go out.
The problem is the trim motor itself gets water in it and it rusts. A design flaw kawasaki put the box too low in the ski and water can get up the cable into the box. If you are lucky you may be able to disasemble it and break all the parts loose, clean the motor armature and brushes and grease it up. It may last a few more seasons after that.

Im 95% sure this is your problem. my buddy had 2 of them and they both had the same problem. he jimmied them to work but had intermittant problems after that every year.
Without fixing the trim cable seal it will happen again.

he eventualy set the trim to straight and unpluged it.

You did good his went bad after only 5 years.
Other than that we beat the piss out of those skiis and they are still running to this day.

I have a 95' Zxi 900 and dad used to have one as well... very common problem. I'm installing a manual hydraulic trim with a clutch lever on it now. There is a little metal cover that rusts and then hits the housing and won't move anymore. I fixed dad's machine by copying the metal part out of a plastic cap. I made it out of some jar top..can't quite remember but it worked pretty good.
