Motor is an 05 IQ440 that I'm transplanting into a wedgie to play around doing watercross. All stock, with high comp heads. What I'm looking for is a ballpark gearing and clutching setup. I've got all the stock gearing/clutching (with the team roller) that I can use. Would this be a good start?? I'd need a setup for ovals. Track is a 121 X 7/8"

Nevermind about it being a wedge sled....I gots me an 04 proxr chassis that is my new project. Still kind of wondering where the ballpark is for a setup. And if you've got prox parts for sale PM me (driveshaft, exhaust, brake system)

You gonna run it at Grantsburg (July 20-21-22) or Knapp (July 4th)?

Hurry up and get her ready, sorry no help with specs, have not had a Polaris in 20 some years or done watercross. I would say trial and error if you have the means to get it backout after sinking.

Post up some pics huh!

With any luck I could be ready for Grantsburg. No way I can get it done for Knapp. I gotta send my cylinder out this week and get the motor all together. Then practice, sinking, and finding a better setup to try again. Tomorrow I'm going to tear the chassis all down and see what I've really got. For right now I'm just going to rob parts from my other sled. I want to swap tracks between them anyways so I'll steel the driveshaft and brakes then find replacements for the snow sled.

I think for a starting setup I'd want the 440 gearing with a ton of backshift....by the time I hit the water hopefully someone can give me some hints.

For a recovery I'm going to modify the raft I made for Fatfar last weekend. I've got 2 more barrels (might buy another 2) that I'll strap together to make a makeshift pontoon style rig. It'll be....sweet...yea...sweet thumbsup.png And obviously I'll post up some pics building it and then when its on the water

Sounds like a plan with a small trolling motor or something to get it around.

I seen 2 cars floating this year - just those $5 barrels in the wheel tunnels, funny shit! Still didn't beat the SS Titanic from last year but a good try!

I have some parts also, Drive Shaft, Jack Shaft, Brake caliper, Gears, that sort of thing.

Let me know if I can help out.

The red camaro and black honda....those were pretty cool. I was anchored under the bridge right at the boat launch. I had an 8x8 raft, carpeted, with a couch on it, you mighta seen me.

hey squid, when i picked up my xr I was askin around for some gearing recommendations for thew trail. I think pockets recommended something like a 21/41 (or 42?) I can't remember. That was for a bit more topend and better cruising speed at lower rpms. I wonder how that would work for waterx..although I'm not sure if the 440 gearing will runout or not on the water when you're ovaling.

I competed in a drag race..500' on water last october. I was beat by about 2 sled lengths in that distance by 600s (600 class was the lowest it went). That's also with the 1 7/8" track however. Hope it helps.

just an FYI u need to race one iwa watercross event within 1 year b4 racing at grantsburg.
jonboyprox
no anyone can race at Grantsburg!!! and everyone should go

for gearing start at 18-43 or 44
squidward
for gearing I've got 19/43, which is stock for the 440 I believe. Im thinking that'll be decent. Once on the water I'll be able to tell for sure.
proxr441
your gonna want to gear it down still from 19-43... when i had mine on the water i could never get it to hit over 53 mph's on the radar, that was with 10+ different gear ratios, plus 3 helix's and a couple of sets of weights... i wound up with hot seat k1's (i think thats what they were) 50.5 grams, the almond red spring, a 56-42-.46 helix with a .91 (shockwave?) track and the usual little watercross mods ( longer flap, plenty of straps on the flap, no limiter straps ect ect.) plus the stock shock off of an sks 700 (longer). The shock was longer and that seemed to work better for turning. Good luck!!!
